http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/oct/31/manchester-city-rafael-van-der-vaartTottenham's Rafael van der Vaart believes the wheels could come off Manchester City's title bid because of too many "egos" within the squad.
The Dutchman scored in Sunday's 3-1 home win over Queens Park Rangers, a victory that moved Spurs up to fifth in the Premier League, nine points behind the leaders.
"Manchester City look like they're the best team in the league but below them you have a lot of good teams and we are one of those teams," Van der Vaart said. "They're winning games easily and how they played against Manchester United [in the 6-1 derby win] was impressive but they also have the difficulty of a lot of egos, so that could be a problem.
"I was at Real Madrid and that's the problem when you have too many big stars. When you play for a top team and they buy a lot of good players, a lot of other players aren't happy. You look at Emmanuel Adebayor, a great player for us, but at City he was training with the youngsters. He is a great player and he was not even training with the first team."
Van der Vaart is also confident that Spurs will finish above Arsenal in the table and has told their north London rivals not to get carried away with Saturday's frenzied 5-3 victory at Chelsea. Arsenal have now won eight of their last nine games as their recovery from a dismal start to the season gathers pace.
"I believe we're better," he said. "Yes, they're on a good run, but so are we: six wins and a draw from our last seven league games. It's a long season still but I think we have a better squad, a bigger squad. This club want to be in the top four."

Haha..He's havin a laugh. Keep lookin up at us VDV. The biggest egos were Hughes signings (Tevez) (Bellers) (Ade) no longer in our team. Hope Ade stirs some shitup in your dressing room when he gets dropped..Jog on twatface.

Adebayor is still in his 'honeymoon period' with them. Let's see how he's playing come January.

he talks about ego's and then mentions that Ade was not allowed with the first team, does he not see the irony of his bullshit?

I'd like to go on record as saying that I'm not remotely offended by anything he said.

It would be odd if it did offend you.
Just out of curiosity, do you agree with him?

I don't disagree with him. He's not really saying anything of substance, and he certainly isn't having a pop.
He says we're playing well and that dressing room tension is probably the only thing that could halt our momentum. In that sense, I tend to agree with him.
What do you think? Actually, I don't care.

Yeah and twitchy thinks spuds are one of 6 teams in with a chance of winning the league.
Must be something in the water down there because they all seem to be tripping their tits off.

They look like the third best side in the division to me at the minute. All the talk is of it being between Spurs, Dippers and Arse for 4th, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Spurs push Chelsea for 3rd. They might just fall short due to relative lack of depth in their squad, but they're a proposition on their day.
I bet whoever finishes 3rd finishes a good distance behind us and the Munelords. If Chelsea even come close to winning the league I'll eat my own head.

The "ego's" have been sorted. Balotelli, Dzeko and Johnson have spat the dummy out in recent weeks but have seen the error of their ways. It's similar to the "money doesn't buy success/you bought the league scenario". If players kick up a fuss when they are dropped or criticised they are ego's. If they don't they are mercenaries who don't care and are just here for the money. We can't win either way.

Adebayor, a great player who scored in the first two matches he played for Tottenham and hasn't scored since. Month and a half without a goal, triffic player.

He's still playing pretty well though, to be fair. At least when I've watched them he has been. The partnership with Defoe (when he's not benched) seems to work well.

Imagine what the people around here who think Dzeko converting 1 out of 3 chances is bad would say about Adebayor. They'd probably stone him at the ground.

Wishful thinking from vdV. He's entitled to it. Wanting it and saying it won't make it happen though.
Adebayor playing great? I don't know really; I haven't seen much of him. However I did see the stylish way he missed that sitter on Sunday. Really triffic. I thought so anyway.

I would say arsenal are the 3rd best team followed by spurs at the minute but both have issues with depth and defence.
I'd absolutely love it, LOVE IT if newcastle kept getting results and stayed around liverpool, arse and spuds until the end of the season. Would be a fair bit of twitching going on.
