Is Scott Parker As Good As They Say? Really?

I have just read in another thread that Scott Parker has been included in the squads chosen by SkySports and F365's Team Of The Season So Far. This comes after he was awarded the Football Writer's Player Of The Year last season.

Am I the only person who doesn't understand why the media love this average player so much??

He failed to prevent West Ham being relegated
He doesn't make it into the top 100 of the Player Performance Index
He hasn't scored in the 8 games he has played this season.
The Premier League's own Fantasy Football has him ranked 88th amongst midfield players
He has only provided 1 assist this season (Micah Richards has 4)

So, what's so good about him??

I dont rate him, hes tidy player but thats about it, if he is 1st choice for england at Euros they wont get out of there group. He got lucky with his move to spurs due to the bad start they had they wouldve taken anyone to play defensive mid(similar to santos at arsenal, arse needed a left back and they signed someone they wouldnt normally sign in a million years as hes gash but they were desperate for bodies) and was only a matter of time before results turned around for them and he happened to be in the team. They wouldve turned around anyway with or without him in the team in my opinion.

Triffic player some would have you believe.

I don't believe all the hype myself, was fairly amazed to say the least that he was fwa player of the year last season.Granted hes a decent dependable player that works very hard for his team but he could not be considered a really good player.

I think I'm the guy who says that you can prove pretty much anything with stats.

I would be interested in seeing some stats that show he deserves the accolades that he receives.

His most productive spell in front of goal was while on loan at Norwich in the year 2000 where he managed a goal per game ratio of 1 in 6.

Her plays for one of the London media's favourite teams, ergo he is a great talent. He's been an ordinary player his whole career, but suddenly, at 31, he's fantastic. I don't think so.

That one is abit harsh.

He is an alright player, nothing special though but then again with modric (the best player in the premiership/theworld/THE UNIVERSE of all time ever (x infinity IDST) he doesn't need to be very good as they will walk the league anyway.

If half the spuds players were half as good as half the media would have you believe, they would piss all over barca but anyone with half a brain knows otherwise.

Pre Scott Parker. 0-3 and 1-5

Post Scott Parker. 7 wins and a draw and looking good.

Scott Parker is possibly THE most overrated player in the history of football. Beyond laughable.

He's rated for his tackling and passing, a bit like De Jong, Barry etc... who also won't have many assists or be rated by the attacking stats.

See this from 442 magazine halfway down the link below :

"Parker attempted seven tackles - more than any other player in the Premier League this weekend, with his 21 over the course of the season so far the highest in the Premier League, despite him having only played four matches. "

http://fourfourtwo.com/blogs/statszone/ ... 31011.aspx

I've always thought he was a decent player, from his Charlton days onwards. He just never really hit the headlines as a star because he went to Chelsea and didn't always make the team sheet as Makele and lampard were ahead of him.

At the time, I thought united would have signed him as a replacement for Roy Kunt.

Surely that accolade should go to Dirk Kuyt ?

Nah, I quite like Dirk Kuyt. Obviously not nearly as good as some Scousers will tell you but he is hard working feller who gives his absolute everything for the cause. It's just not always enough. Scott Paker isn't even hard working player.

It was ridiculous when he won the award last year. That said, I've watched about 6 or 7 of Spurs' games live this season and he's been excellent - the best player on the pitch more often than not. Honestly. Really intelligent player.

I think Dirk is underrated, how hes not in that team ahead of Henderson I will never know, always pops up with the goods for liverpool. I like him.

He used to be a bit quicker, which imo made him a lot better. Now, he could do a job in our team if we had injuries but would be a last resort when everybody else is injured.

Maybe not top top class but I agree still a very good player. Does the defensive midfield role very well and has definitely got better with age but at the same time I really dislike him a lot for some reason.
