Manchester City star Adam Johnson has agreed a new long-term contract at the club.

The England winger has been in talks with City over a new deal for a number of months, despite having some three-and-half years left on his previous contract.

He has now put pen-to-paper with the club he joined in January 2010 from Middlesbrough and is committed until after the next World Cup.

The 24-year-old has played over 50 first-team games and has established himself as a firm fans' favourite.

Since his move he has also established himself as a regular in the England squad, and as a result City have now rewarded him for his progress.

Johnson has admitted he has to battle for his first-team place at the Etihad Stadium, but speculation had seen him linked with a loan move to a Premier League rival.

But now both Johnson and City will hope any question over his future at the club will have been put to bed with the signing of a new deal.

Source?

This is at odds with the club's stance that they don't conclude contract negotiations until the off season.

Cheers mate. I'm still sceptical though as I read this a couple of weeks back and I've yet to see confirmation from the club

Nice one, this should keep the lads head from being turned as Liverpool were definitely interested and now they can FUCK RIGHT OFF!

Happy about this. Now Bob can work on him without distractions.

Good news. We've probably felt quite a bit of heat from other clubs sniffing around recently, especially with the press trying to create a little divide between AJ and Bob. Nice to put that to bed.

It is in "the mirror" and "the mail" that he "signed under duress".

Did anyone else see his shot from the halfway line at the end of the pre-match warm up yesterday? He was taking it in turns with Stuart Taylor and shanked the first couple of attempts wide. With his last attempt he hit the crossbar perfectly with his shot and then sprinted like a school kid off the pitch and down the tunnel whilst laughing his head off.
