Kompany's ban?

Might be making a massive faux pas here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I saw Kompany receive a red card against Wolves and left the field of play.
Then he didn't play against QPR, I'm assuming because of a ban and we didn't appeal the card (it was a red, he was the last man, no question).

Unless my eyesight isn't what it used to be, he started against Newcastle.

I may have missed a rule change, and will look like a complete tit, but I thought a straight red was a three match ban.
Can't see anything on the club site or other sports sites saying we appealed the card.
I was under the impression a one match ban was for getting 5 yellows, or 2 yellows in the same match?

Am I missing something?

He was sent off for a professional foul, violent conduct is a 3 match ban but other crime are apparently not.

one match ban classed as serious foul play, and not violent conduct which attracts a 3 match ban.

Thanks, I (obviously) wasn't aware of that.

When did this rule come into play? I vaguely remember something about getting a 2 match ban for a red under certain circumstances, but never only 1 match for a red.
