Adebayor at Spurs

Adebayor at Spurs

Postby King Kev » Tue Nov 22, 2011 9:38 am

I'm sorry but we should not be loaning our players out to teams in the same league as us. I know we are flying high at the moment but Spurs are now 9 points behind us with a game in hand, not insurmountable!

I appreciate that we need to send some players out to other clubs but to send them to other premier league clubs is madness.

Nah, nobody was bothered at the time but now he's doing well think its wrong. I recall Arsenal fans saying the same when he came to us ... give it 3/4 of a season and you'll feel better about it, trust me, he'll get disinterested again. I just hope a deal is struck before that happens so we don't have to keep on paying him

i agree, spurs fans piss me off with there "we are great without the need to buy the league like city" attitude, we shouldnt of loaned adebayor to them he should of been sent abroad or how about this for a whacky idea put to good use for us? Its a shame him and mancini dont see eye to eye as he would be a great 4th striker for us.
derby day the scores were level,
then the goat was fed by neville,

There's no way Ade would be content being the fourth striker and only get to start occasionally.

Did we have a choice otherwise? Other than keeping him that is, which Bob wouldn't have been happy about.

think that's right.
Plus he's helping them take points off other contenders (Arse, Scouse, Bar Codes - cough) but not us.
Don't buy into this "we can win the league" stuff Harry's pitched in with this morning. In another thread it's been established NOONE can catch us
Plus when he's precooupied defending his "good name" from January, the wheels will be wobbling along with doubters' heads

My concern is we dont sell him Ade for a cheap price. On his day with the right motivation Ade is superb. Remember when he played Arsenal. He would be well fired up against us. All this talk of "Spurs cant afford to buy him" IMO is Arry's wheeling and dealing to reduce the price. Parker, last years Player of year for £6m, has transformed their side. Van der Vaart the previous year for £8m. Spurs are playing better than the rags at the moment and IMO they could decide where the title ends up.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Spurs suit Adebayor's do as little as you can get away with and hang about up front. Great for Spurs style and a step up from Crouch. Even so the gloss will wear off.
As for Spurs being a threat, like the Arse they are just one or two injuries from disappearing. VDV and Bale. Spurs will then see how versatile a player Adebayor is.

I quite like Ade as a player but I'm glad that Mancini saw through him and got rid.

Amongst all the possibilities and ifs and buts, one thing is certain with regard to our incredible start and that is that we have a 'team' playing together and fully behind Mancini - and it is clear that if you do not like it his way, well............

Now this hard-nosed attitude is all right when it works and more often it does not in PL football because of all the power normally rests with the players - we are probably the only club currently that can afford to back the manager in such a resolute fashion - even if it means taking a commercial bath!!

So there is no place for him at CITY any longer - and even Tevez has gone too far - but others, e.g. de jong & johnson have clammed up and are falling in line - this is essential given the pressures we face and the reason why we have only rolled ever more impressively forward since Munich

Someone posted a similar comment the other day that Mancini was ruthless. While I'd agree he is very clear about what he wants he has given most if not all players a chance. Ade had his chances and probs didn't do what he was asked to and didn't make the right noises when confronted by Mancini about it. Perhaps Bellemy was the only one he fucked off without a real attempt to bring onside. My take is he makes an effort if the player shows willing in his character.
It may be a rouse but he even offered Tevez a way back in!

I think he is just very clear about what he wants from the players and knows it will make a great team. If a player cannot conform or thinks they know better how to play as a team or what role they should adopt then there is a bit of a problem. Some wooly managers might allow a lot of leeway with stars.. but then essentially they are not going to build a squad capable of playing in a spanish style disciplined way are they?

Spurs will not be within 6 points of City at the end of the season, yet Adebayor will take valuable points off Chelsea and/or Munchen mark my words.

At the moment, Adebayor is increasing his transfer value by having a few good performances. It's just a pity that his loan spell won't end in January, as Spurs might have really pushed the boat out to try and buy him in the window and we could have held them to ransom and asked for a top price.

Come the end of the season when he's faded out and probably been rumbled as a potential dressing room mal-content, we're going to get a lot less for him then, when he is finally sold.

In hindsight, it's now a big pity the loan agreement was for the entire season, although at the time, I suppose we were just glad to get some of his wages off our books.

Adebayor was a bit unlucky at City imo. He was signed, like quite a few others, purely to get us from A to B & then discarded. He should have played more for us last season & had he done so, we would have probably been able to transfer him rather than loaning him.

Personally though, I'd rather he can't play against us this season a he's the sort of big ox that scores against us. By next season it won't matter.

Is it possible that his goalscoring will make it virtually impossible for Spurs not to make him a permanent signing when his loan expires? We would be a bit miffed if a 15-20 goal a season wasn't snapped up after he had been there a year. We can still get a fee for him and it will be handy to get all those wages off the books.

In my opening line...I was referring to selling him to Spurs in Jan for a "knock down price" which has been talked about. If he was sold on a pernament basis he could play against us. However my main concern is seeing them getting good players for cheap prices on a regular basis and us subsidising them.

Not one for dragging threads up but just been looking at Spurs results and what they've done against the top teams. After losing to United without Ade, and us tonking them, the scores when he's played were:

Spurs v Liverpool - won 4-0

Spurs v Arsenal - won 2-1

Spurs v Chelsea - drew 1-1

You could also throw in the away 2-2 with Newcastle as they were doing well at the time.

Just wondering if anyone thinks it was a mistake to let him go to Spurs?

NB. Out of interest, Spurs have only played 1 of the top teams away from home, and that was United.

I think it was a brave move letting him go to Spurs however it is paying off in some ways as he's taking points off potential rivals whilst at the same time not causing disruption back at City ... still can't see Spurs taking him permanently mind.
