Well we all knew this story was coming. Does this mean the media are trying to unsettle arsenal before the match?
EXCLUSIVE
City line up £30m Van Persie raid
By NEIL CUSTIS
Published: Today
MANCHESTER CITY will offer Robin van Persie a £41.6MILLION deal to join them in the summer.
The mega-rich Prem leaders are convinced they will land the Arsenal hitman with a £30m bid.
City are comfortable that Van Persie will not sign a new contract at the Emirates and follow Gunners Samir Nasri, Kolo Toure and Gael Clichy to the Etihad.
Van Persie has just 18 months left on his £80,000-a-week contract but City are planning to offer him a four-year deal worth £200,000 a week.
The Dutch star, 28, will line up against City in Manchester for tomorrow's big match.
And he knows this summer will provide his last chance to make one last big-money move — and he will also realise he has more chance of winning silverware with City.
Van Persie only has one FA Cup winners' medal to show for his seven years at Arsenal.
He is in red-hot form and has 33 Premier League goals so far for Arsenal in 2011.
That puts him only one behind ex-Gunner Thierry Henry and four away from breaking Alan Shearer's record of 36 from 1995.

He's nearly 29 and has 1 year left on his contract. City dont pay that kind of money for 29 year olds, nor for guys who have 1 yr left on a contract.
Utd just dont pay that sort of money anymore, and certainly not for 29 year olds.
Summation - it hasnt got a 1% grain of truth.

I agree mate.
There's no doubting his ability but £30 million for a 29 year old seems to be pushing it a bit. Drop 5-10 mill of that inflated tag and I reckon we'd be interested tho'?

Not for one second do I believe we are trying to get RVP nor that he would even consider a move to us.

Ahhhhh silly season must be upon us if rumors like these are floating around(time for a transfer bollox thread?). The article is pitiful, its such lazy journalism, not a quote nothing just made up bs.
In saying that id take RVP to piss Arsenal fans off but apart from that at 29 he still has a good 3 years left in him, 20m would be more appropriate considering everything and he would be worth it.
He would come aswell i reckon.

This is what Fergie does every week, bigs up one of the oppositions players before the game, united are apparently interested in
one of the QPR players, if i remember correctly from Chinner's b*llox on Wednesday or Thursday.

I'm pretty sure if roberto had the chance to sign VP he would sign him. Unlike us he would look at the player and what he could do for city and not be so petty as to care about him diving/acting.
Not for that price though and i don't think there will be many £200,000 a week contracts handed to nearly 30 year old players.
So yeah it is most likely a bullshit story.

I don't want him. Never much liked him on account of his petulance, and actively disliked him after how he behaved at COMS a couple of seasons ago. Of course the club wouldn't care about that if they thought he'd score goals like he's done for Arsenal, but they'd find his age a better reason for not paying that kind of money - at 29 he'd only have two seasons, tops, to make it worthwhile.

Considering all the money that has passed from the City account to the Arsenal account over recent years, would it not have been simpler for us to have just bought Arsenal.
An ideal second home for our Southern based fans and we could put Wenger in charge of the youth system down there.

I just hope its so he makes a cunt of himself tomorrow! I'd have additional words to add to this, most of them a well reasoned argument but I did want to guarantee him scoring a hat-trick tomorrow

Utter utter rubbish. Because of RVPs age, and FFP, he will be sold for far less than Arsenal fans dream of. More likely 10 or 15 M than 60 or 70!
He will score today, we need to score twice!

Perhaps we could deploy a cunningly positioned sprinkler head in the warm up today and accidentally injure him for the rest of the season.

This is absolutely the situation.
