Just seen on Sky that the SPL are going to pilot a Safe Standing scheme similar to that used in Germany.

What are your thoughts - good or bad?

Good- safe standing is being tried out in Britain.

Bad- safe standing is being tried out in Scotland.

We're a different planet now than when the ban came in. A sensible trial run in a neighbouring country developed through use of current technology and taking into account modern policing procedures is just what is needed. Hopefully it all goes smoothly and our FA monitor how it progresses too.

I'm hoping that if it is successful and the powers that be let it happen then it'll bring in a cheaper option for many and allow those who are currently priced out the chance to get back into going to the match on a regular basis.

On the news this afternoon, it said that the English FA were ruling this out.

Made me wonder why, in this day and age, the FA have the overall and ultimate 'power' to decide on such matters. You could make a good case for arguing that it should be left to each individual club to determine the configuration of it's own ground and terracing.

On the radio they mentioned something about legislation so maybe there's a legal hurdle for the higher tiers in England.

Legislation changes all the time, why do we have to turn good ideas away because of an incident that happened many years ago? Look at our stadium, could anything possibly happen there compared to what happened back then? The nearest you are going to get is someone dropping their Bovril or prodding someone in the eye with their Hot Dog.

Whether they allow it or not people will still stand up, I feel it is a case of if they permit it and something happens then they can say they did not exacerbate the situation.

If they keep the rule but relax the policing of it then the FA are not liable.

well after reducing every grounds capacity since hillsboro,
for over 20 years, and clubs going under through lack of gatemoney etc
what a great idea. lets have 100,000 at the swamp,
glad its been blocked, dont get me wrong standing which was great
and still do when allowed to creates a better atmosphere.
but for famils etc its much better for people to have their own seat
especially for young kids, imo. dont tell me about germany.

At the moment because the areas are seated you have youth own personal space. Not like the kippax in the 70/80's. Will it be standing with seats?

The Lib Dems are going to bring it up in Parliament at some point. If it looks like a vote winner, politicians will back it. Scousers will no doubt try to stop the rest of us from having standing areas, then travel to away matches in Europe where they have standing areas & stand in them, as they are a bunch of hypocritical cunts.

One would assume, I have read somewhere that the regulations for seating goes on people per sq ft, if people have the freedom to move about then this will be violated.

Would help the atmosphere at grounds I would think. I'd love it, personally, as a long-time patron of The Kippax.

Don't see how "allowing" people to stand would make a difference unless they rip out thousands of seats but then the standing tickets would have to be half the price.

Persoanlly i can't be arsed standing anymore, that shits a young mans game, so im moving a few blocks down into 107 or there abouts next season.

Think...TV revenue...think greed and it tells you all you need to know. No matter how safe standing can be made, the FA, the Prem and the top flight clubs will fight it all the way.

Should you wish chapter and verse, I'll be happy to provide itbut suffice to say that all seater stadia coincided with the breakaway of the Prem from the Football League and the massive (for that time) financial input of £302M from Sky TvV.

For the 1st time in football's history, clubs could afford to ditch a significant number of fans, reduce costs and still receive income from their non attendancefrom Sky's subscription TV. Remember that until that time, all TV football was free to air.

PersonallyI love standing at games...but I'm not as old as you Ashton...:-)

They should do a kids area at the front, cheap tickets for you then ;-)

Firstly, why do your posts always look like they should be rhyming?

On the issue of Safe Standing, if you don't want to you don't have to. I'm sure if it came in it wouldn't be the complete stadium, just a small proportion, say the South Stand. You'd be able to choose not to go in the area just as those who would want to, could.

Family Stand maybe, for kids? If you don't like going behind the goal, why not try East or West Stand, there's room for all?

Those of you who are against this because, 'I wont be able to see, I don't want to stand up, think of the children, what about the childten, etc etc etc' use your brains for fucks sake. At the moment, people stand up in seated areas, so those who are small or kids or whatever, can't see etc. If there were proper safe standing areas, they would be built for standing & only those areas would be allowed to stand & everyone in the seats would have to,sit down or be, thrown out; so now all you dwarves & kids, old cunts, etc can watch the game without your view being obstructed & those who want to stand can do so without being mithered. RESULT.
