NEWS Loan Round-Up: Disappointing starts for former Manchester City men

Transfer deadline day saw five senior players depart The Etihad on loan, with Wilfried Bony, Eliaquim Mangala, Samir Nasri, Joe Hart and Jason Denayer leaving in search of regular first-team football.

Unfortunately, the majority of these players endured torrid debuts, with four out of the five mentioned finishing on the losing side.

Jason Denayer was the first to make the bow for his new club, as his Sunderland side visited Rochdale in the Checkatrade Trophy. Those at the game stated that Denayer seemed well off the pace, with his team losing the tie on penalties.

Wilfried Bony was named in the starting XI for Stoke as they hosted Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon. The Ivorian was completely ineffective as Stoke’s lone striker, as Spurs romped to a convincing 4-0 win at the Bet365 Stadium.

Much had been made of Joe Hart’s debut for Torino after his replacement, Claudio Bravo, dropped a clanger in the Manchester derby. His new side started well as they took the lead away at Atlanta, but Hart then made a mistake of his own, flapping at a corner which fell to the feet of an Atlanta player, who then equalised. Hart’s misery wasn’t yet complete, as Atlanta completed the turnaround through a penalty, with Hart being sent the wrong way from the spot.

Eliaquim Mangala fared no better than his former team-mates, as Valencia succumbed to a 3-2 loss at home to Real Betis. Mangala played the full 90 minutes on his debut, but wasn’t helped by the sending off of Enzo Perez early on in the second half.

Samir Nasri was the only senior City loanee to pick up a win this weekend, with Jorge Sampaoli’s Sevilla snatching all three points against Las Palmas with a late turnaround. Nasri was lauded by pundits after a fine debut performance.


And finally, it was a debut to forget for former City manager Manuel Pellegrini. His new side, Hebei China Fortune, lost 3-0 at home to Guangzhou Evergrande.

And to think many people here, including supposed mcfc supporters,'didn't think the championship was the right move. He'd surely have been better off training with our reserves. Deluded Aussies.

Hmm. I haven't seen the tackle so shouldn't really comment but from what I know of him, Garry Monk is a decent enough sort.
