The atmosphere once again was fucking dreadful last night. With a bit of backing, I think the team could have been inspired to really smash stoke in.

Couldn't make it so only saw the highlights, but you're right. If only the fans had got behind the team we could have played them off the park rather than scraping a win and having to hang on at the end.

Ridiculously flat last night, no idea why to be honest. I think maybe everyone turned up expecting to be entertained and just expecting 3 points, where as it was a much better atmosphere against Arsenal because it was a close game, and really end to end, it was a lot more exciting.

It has been worse 110 were in fine form maybe the North Stand,Colin Bell need to be shamed into confirming they are not card board cutouts. TBF the game had a testimonial feel about it.

Stoke fans were just as bad. One decent attempt at Delilah & a few mumbled nothings. They are getting into the swing of being Premier League. Soon their home atmosphere will drop too & they'll have to get a drum, like Portsmouth & Blackburn...

I don't think it helps when a team turn up and litterally roll over. I've never known us have such control over a game as last night. It was unreal. It doesn't lend itself to an electric atmosphere.

Once we'd hit 3 we went into auto-mode, content to keep and pass the ball seemingly preserving energy for Boxing Day. With te crowd, it seemed to be the same. We seemed a little apprehensive to start knowing that we needed a score to stay top, but when we seen how Stoke had set-up it made it a little more worrying. Many around me were saying we at least need one person over 5 feet, we'll never get through.

The difference could be seen when the game was won and we were more relaxed. Stoke didn't get into but can you blame them and I've never seen the SS so quiet with the singing corner having to goad them into life.

Compare last night to the Arsenal game. Chalk and Cheese.

I've been saying this all year. The worst thing about supporting CIty these days are the dumb supporters. Once again a cathedral silence descended on the stadium. It was even worse in the Munich match.

People say it's the stadium?
Or is it that we are mesmerised by the play?

Maybe, and it's just a thought, we could actually find some decent f........ chants/songs for the fans.
The magic of Delilah at Wembley was infectious, even the City fans were singing it. The noise from that Greek side last year ?Aris was electrifying.
When I think of the Phil Spectre wall of sound that was the Kippax!!

Come on guys let's get a few good (funny!) songs and chants. THere must be some fans out there with experience in this sort of thing (? someone worked as a warm up for a comedian, a professional song writer???)

I know the game didn't help as it was pretty pedestrian, but it seems that most of the so called "singers corner" were more content to amuse themselves as they usually are rather than actually supporting the team. It's been commented on before that in that particular corner, the "singers" are actually much more intent on singing at the fat guy in the away end and offering people out from 100 yards away, than actually getting behind their own team - and last night proved that once again.

People can criticise the other stands as much as they want, but it is the corner and the south stand which are supposed to be full of all the people who want to sing, so fucking sing and get behind the team, get some decent songs going which gets the team's blood pumping - because there will be many games like last nights, and many more where we struggle to break sides down like that.

I was perfectly happy with how we played, but honestly think the crowd could have made City step it up last night and really put Stoke to the sword.

Hi Spartacus,
I think it's the modern way. The old Kippax was full of proactive people who were focussed on singing chanting (and a few other things) but most of all getting behind the team and driving them along. Fans in other stands at Maine Road, just seemed to wish to be entertained and rarely if ever joined the concerted singing.

These days it seems that there is a smaller percentage of our present crowd who fall into the old Kippax category and a far larger proportion who are content to ooh! and aah! when necessary, join in now and then when the excitement threshold warms them up but are generally content to let the team generate any entertainment or excitement.

Don't think that there's a great deal that can be done about it....sadly.

It was nothing new for Joe and he probably won't get bollocked as he did it last season as well when we were chanting at him to do stuff.

You are spot on about it being a different type of crowd today perhaps more sanitized by all seater stadia (I know I certainly am).

However, it seems today more the younger fans in their late teens/early/mid twenties (listen to me i'm only 33 haha) who I notice who are more bothered about standing there with their arms outstretched to an away fan and giving it the big un - rather than actually supporting the team - and slowly but surely they have stated to outnumber those who actually turn up to the game to support their team.
