Savic looks for City exit, says agent
26 December 2011

Sporting Lisbon target Stefan Savic is looking to leave Manchester City in January, his agent has revealed.

The Montenegro international joined City in the summer from Partizan in a deal worth seven million euros but has been unable to hold down a regular place in Roberto Mancini's side.

Having started only six matches to date for the Premier League side, Savic is looking to get more games under his belt elsewhere before being able to prove his worth at the Etihad Stadium.

"It is true that he is on his way out of City in January and that he will leave on loan," the defender's agent Zoran Stojadinovic told O JOGO.

The possibility of signing the 20-year-old on loan would appeal to Sporting, who are on the lookout for a quality centre-back in a cut-price deal.

Savic had already been on the Portuguese club's agenda in the summer before his move to England, but Partizan's asking price put the Lisbon outfit out of the race for the defender.

Zenit St Petersburg's Bruno Alves has also been suggested as a possibility to bolster their defence as the Portugal international has been on the fringes of the action at the Russian club.

Considering Kolarov's injured, Kolo is off to ACN and Ned is probably off I'd be surprised by this. It would leave us with only 3 full backs and 2 centre halves during January. Suppose it could be done as a deadline day deal once we've go through most of the games and just before Kolo comes back. Or after another defender comes in...

What is it with getting these wank CB/RB players who stay for barely a season until they realise they can't be arsed to put the work in??

If this is true and he does go we need to go all out for Cahill in my opinion. I don't really rate him that much, but I really can't think of anyone we'd get for cheap who'd be a decent backup/Carling Cup starter

Can't find it in the papers? Seems to be an internet based story from the foreign press with a shock headline that doesn't match the original quote it is based on i.e. agent says we are sending Savic out on loan to get more experience. Would hardly be a shock if he did...

Papers, internet, all as bad really. It would be a shock for me for the reasons mentioned above with Kolo away for a month or so and little or no back up for Vinnie and Lescott

Imo, Savic is not cover for anyone at all at CB if we get injuries. If he plays a run of games for City in that position, when that run is finished, it's 50/50 either our league position will have dropped or we'll be out of one or all cup competitions. Johnny Evans was 10 times better v QPR than Savic was.

If Bob is loaning him out, it is a brilliant move & will give him an opportunity to play games whilst we have a look at him & learn whether he's worth coaching or to cut our losses like we (correctly) did with Boateng (who was better than Savic). Ned is a better player than both of them & still not good enough at CB.

But he could play right back allowing Richards to play at centre half as cover. We're going to be short of cover in a very busy January and there's no sense letting him go then unless there's someone else coming in.

Wouldn't understand Portugal though as his problem seems to be dealing with high balls and being roughed up. He'd be better served with a few months in the Championship to get used to the English game than a league that plays to his strengths

Imo he struggles at every aspect of defending & would get destroyed by either of Carrol in the air or Suarez on the ground. He could play RB but would only get occasional games there if Zabba was unavailable. If the idea is to get Savic regular football at a crucial time in his development then this is a good move, although I agre that some experience here would be good. I just hope it's true as he scares the shit out of me & is imo more likely to cost us the title than Utd are.

We need to sign a CB in Jan. If we don't we are gambling & those kind of gambles are usually subject to 'sod's law'.

Mancini has always seemed to have one eye on the longer term and as Ted says, this could be a good move for both City and the player. Savic is still a baby and I always thought he was bought for the future.

Playing regularly for Sporting Lisbon has got to be a better optin for all, rather than have him keeping our bench warm. Players of that age need games and experience...and we'll drag a few quid in too.

Let Sporting bring him on and take the football risks and if he doesn't make it, we have lost nowt.

The timing would surprise me if it's early Jan but Kolarov isnt injured anymore.

I'd rather see him in championship, if no EPL teams are interested. He would be close to our staff, english style of football is what he needs.

still, I don't think there's any truth in this.

I see once again you've chosen to highlight a 20 yr old's 1st start in a new league as the basis for his ability, while ignoring all his performances after that game.

Look I'm not doing anything of the sort. Will you fuck off with this childish shite ? It's my opinion based on every game I've seen him play including for Monetenegro. Even at RB when he's done ok, I can see the same flaws which would worry me if he was at CB. I've spent half my life watching football at youth level & am delighted to see one come through. Imo, he is full of flaws. If you want to fucking prais e his football ability then fucking do so, but stop questioning the motives of my opinion on him.

Savic set for City stay

The agent of Manchester City defender Stefan Savic claims his client is happy in England and is not looking to beat a hasty retreat.

The Montenegro international is less than a season into his City career, with a four-year contract having been agreed with the Blues last summer.

He has been in and out of the team under Roberto Mancini, with the Blues working with a squad brimming with world-class talent.

Savic is also still finding his feet in a new country and a new division, making it easier for him to accept a bit-part role.

He was, however, involved in City's FA Cup meeting with arch-rivals Manchester United on Sunday, suggesting Mancini considers him to be a man for the big occasion.

With that in mind, the 21-year-old is happy to continue with his City adventure and shrug off speculation claiming he could be on his way to Italy.

"Roma's interest in Savic? He will definitely be staying in Manchester," Savic's representative, Vlado Borozan, told notiziariosportivo.com.

"He is happy at City. Yesterday he played against United in the FA Cup.

"He absolutely will not be moving."

He will now Kompany and Toure arent here for ages.

Mancini obviously rated Savic at first, he use to make a lot of sub appearances. Not so many recently. But now is his chance to show why we bought him.
