The Mispronounced XI

It amuses and astounds me that professional commentators and pundits can't get the names of our players correct.

Here is our starting XI of players who's names I have heard mispronounced by the 'experts':

Pantimillion

Meekah Richards
Julian Lescott
Korolov
Zabayeta
Cliché

de Jong (pronounced with a hard 'j')
Garry
David Villa

Deko
Aguera

Have you noticed any others?

Nedum Onuoha. I have never once heard a commentator or pundit get it right.

Quite often pundits get names wrong, not just us.

Wesley Sneijder (Schneijder) is such an example.

Zabayeta is one that annoys the hell out of though..

Jekko.

I once heard John Motson mispronounce Heskey (Hayskay) and Galatasaray (Gallater-saaar-eye) in one match. Being the very sad twat that i am, i wrote in to the BBC to complain.

They actually apologised to be fair.

Did anyone hear Martin Tylers pronunciation of Senderos during the Fulham v Arsenal game last week? Its not as if the guy has played in this league for a good 6-7 years. It was embarrassing

For some reason the experts keep pronouncing Richard Ashcroft as Stefan Savic. Odd.

To be honest, I'm not sure exactly how it's pronounced correctly, I've heard so many variants. I say On-OO-'er, but that's only cos I try to copy Manc accents I've heard it said in.

Don't know how these pundits get jobs in the first place, you'd think they'd do the tiniest bit of "research" into the correct pronunciation.

Lazy.

Bloody Trevor Francis doesn't seem to be able to distinguish the fact that since he knows one foreign word - "cliche" - it doesn't necessarily follow that the foreign name of Clichy isn't pronounced the same way.
And who is that absolute tool who insists on saying ko-LAAR-ov and TeVEZ just to be different?

I think some modern day commentators/pundits might have difficulty in pronouncing Bell.

Never forget Mike Channon in the 86 WC I think. Burruchaga ended up with about 20 syllables in it - then he just gave up!

No Mackem worth his smack can say penalty.

Would it be too much work for these 'professionals', or their research goblins, to contact the clubs upon whose game they are about to commentate, and ACTUALLY FIND OUT how the name is said. It's so annoying that people who are paid to do something so simple (just because they used to play), are generally so godawful at it. I'd do a better job myself.

It still not nearly as bad as some of the clowns on Dutch TV. Yesterday the presenter in the studio started out by saying that Lindegaard was from Austria. He then went on to call us Manchester United a couple of times to end by saying '"Which one of the Nevile brothers did we just see in the stands? Was it Dennis?" The same senile fooker usually comments games as well and constantly mixes up Yaya, Mario and Micah. Every time a black city player has the ball he goes on about Yaya Toure.
