Adebayor

Postby freshie » Fri Jan 13, 2012 7:17 pm

Is anyone else starting to think that we have dropped a massive bollock in letting Adebayor go on loan to spurs?

I can see the intial reasoning behind the move - Mancini thought he was a disruptive influence in the dressing room, didn't fancy him as a player and thought that we had left spurs trailing so far in our wake that they wouldn't be challenging us in the Prem. Well 5 months later on it's looking like that decision may come back to bite us on the arse. If spurs beat Wolves on Saturday (which I would expect them to do) then they will go level on points with us. Admittedly we will have a game in hand on them but it will put more pressure on us going into Monday night's game against Wigan. No one can doubt the positive influence that Adebayor has had on spurs' season so far and to make matters worse we are paying more than half his wages. I really wish that we could recall him just to fuck up the rest of spurs' season

Completely agree, and I actually rate him as a player even though he can be a bit of a tool (Bellers anyone)

Its the fact we're paying half of his wages which infuriate me more than anything. Spuds would have no chance in attracting that level of striker on those wages normally. Which, as already pointed out on another thread, makes The twitching fuckers recent comments all the more hypocritical.

If we'd had Van der Vaart at the club and let him go then yeh but Adebayor? Balotelli gets shit for being temperamental, but Mancini has faith in him. He has no faith in Adebayor and Adebayor isnt going to roll his sleeves up is he?...he's admitted it himself..plus, our style of play doesnt suit him, in my opinion, as he has no real idea of what he needs to do in certain areas of the pitch at certain times when the build up is slower and mor crafted, ie stay onside. spurs are more direct so he doesnt have to worry too much about that and just has to play off the cuff...hes talented but at this level he should be. Remember if Eto'o had agreed to come we wouldnt be discussing him.

While stats can mean fookall (especially the one I'm about to quote), Ade gives the ball away more than any other player in the PL:

http://www.whoscored.com/Blog/cae9_tpd5 ... Possession

Almost 50% more than everyone else on the list. Combined with a lackluster work-ethic, he doesn't fit in a possession based, defend as a team system. Spurs' high tempo and carefree attacks suit someone like Ade a whole lot more

No he can't. In my view he shouldnt be on loan to any other prem team. No player should be on loan to any other team in the same division. world wide. I think it compromises the integrity of the competition(one of many things that do, but thats another thread/topic).

You could actually put up the argument that we played them at a time that was critical to the Ade negotiations.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he is the right player for us and his attitude and temperament really annoyed me in his last season with us so I don't really want him back. I just find it frustrating that we have strengthened the first XI of a title-contending rival by loaning him to them and paying over half his wages. I would rather we had let him rot in the reserves, although I'm not sure if we would have been allowed to do that (I think players can sue clubs who do that to them).

To add insult to injury, that twitchy fooker is once again spouting more bulllshit in the media proclaiming how proud he is that he hasn't had a blank chequebook like Mancini yet his team are still challenging for the title. What the bent bastard fails to acknowledge is that without 'moneybags' City he wouldn't have Adebayor

I know what you are saying Freshie but redknapp can have his centre spread in the sun all day long, it has been documented on another thread how much spurs have spent in the last few years. If I had that sort of money to spend id be somewhere warmer right now so we all know hes suffering selective memory loss...ignorant people with low intellect tend to do this. If I was manager and i identified problem players that werent my signings id want rid as well, so adebayor, potentially, was a problem player...but I take your point regarding the loan, better off he was at PSG or Roma or whoever because its better having someone pissing outside the tent than pissing in. He wouldnt be the answer for us right now though, any more than robinho or ireland would be, and are they missed, or lamented?

Ade has got spurs 9 points from his goals...this is just the games where he is the only scorer so does not include other games when other players scored as well.

It was a fuckign stupid move imo loaning him to that particular team.

I hope this doesn't come back to haunt us.....9 points ffs !

I agree Carl its shit but it shouldnt be allowed. Wasnt the rule changed a few years back though? and the FA cocked up and didnt rule that a player on loan couldnt play against his registered team? about five/six years back?

best thing about saggy chops is that he forgets his time at pompey, when he bought them the fa cup, signing defoe, mutauni, crouch etc, and when time's got hard he jumped ship instead of sticking it out the shithouse!!

and the only spurs player that they havent payed money for is ledley king!!

Beginning to hate spurs ALOT since the lanky goof crouch stopped us from champions league 2 years back. Especially Harry Redknapp, the ignorant prick, anyone else notice how he always seems to be giving out about us?

I would have thought after what happened with Shay Given and us not being able to recall Joe Hart, we would have put in a recall clause in any loan deal we sanctioned. I'm also sure I read once that there is a rule which states you cannot recall players in a year-long loan deal, however, we seem to be able to recall Boyata from Bolton so I'm not sure if that's the case or not.

Does anyone know the ruling behind this?

Maybe Spurs paid us a fee for the loan - it's possible we can't recall someone when the other team has paid a fee. (If 'Football Manager' is anything to go by)

We are subsidising a rival by paying a great chunk of wages for a top class striker. It was a stupid and arrogant mistake based on the assumption that Spurs weren't credible title challengers and I posted as much at the time. Still think we'll see them off this season.

For what it's worth I still don't consider spurs challengers. 4th at best IMO.
