As far as I'm concerned it is just an excuse for people who refuse to accept the fact that life changes and not always for the best, in fact MOSTLY for the worst. Hindsight being 20/20 and all that. For some people it is less refusing to accept it than not knowing how to accept it or which bits to accept and which to ignore and these people need help from friends and family not drugs and not a ready made excuse given by a half arsed gp. Life is the same for everyone, we all have stuff we wish we did, friends we wish we kept in contact with or apologised to. A career we wish we had stuck out or one we wish we had quit earlier. Places we wish we had been or never went to.
The key is to just be happy with yourself. Concentrate on the thing's you DO have and not complain about the things you don't have. It's hard in the society we live in, there is constant pressure to be "better" because enough in your eyes in never enough in someone else's. Everyone and everything are lining up to tell you that you need to lose weight, wear this, own that, live here, go there, drink this, drive that, work here. But none of that stuff matters.
Introspection is the only thing you need to be happy. It's not THAT complicated.

Good to hear you got this thing called "life" figured out.
