Dean Windass Cry for help

Postby Wonderwall » Sun Jan 15, 2012 8:47 pm

I expect there will be more and more stories like this, it must be weird having that buzz for half of your life and then nothing, I know they get paid gazillions and we would dream to play professionally etc, but at the end of the day they are only every day people.

To be on a high and it go is a major comedown and cracks plenty. A lot of Actors get the same low feeling when shows / plays are over. It's about filling the void and acceptance of moving on that is the key. Fair play for him for coming out and speaking about it, in doing so he may help others to talk if they feel the same emotion. Sad read but in a non callous way a good reminder that ends mental health awareness week.

Depression is a very dangerous and misunderstood illness. The more famous people who talk about it the more it will be accepted as a real illness and hopefully the stigma will vanish.

Good luck to Windass in his fight to recover and well done to him for raising awareness.

Windass props up the bar of my mates local most nights playing the big "I am" and begging for a fight.
He may have been crying every day, but most nights he's been a knobhead.

I don't know anything about depression but imagine if you need to readjust to a new life you're going to need help and friends. Maybe a good place to start is talking to those around you rather than the People.

If he intended to help others good on him. If not shame on him.
Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

Don't believe in depression. As far as I'm concerned it is just an excuse for people who refuse to accept the fact that life changes and not always for the best, in fact MOSTLY for the worst. Hindsight being 20/20 and all that. For some people it is less refusing to accept it than not knowing how to accept it or which bits to accept and which to ignore and these people need help from friends and family not drugs and not a ready made excuse given by a half arsed gp. Life is the same for everyone, we all have stuff we wish we did, friends we wish we kept in contact with or apologised to. A career we wish we had stuck out or one we wish we had quit earlier. Places we wish we had been or never went to.

The key is to just be happy with yourself. Concentrate on the thing's you DO have and not complain about the things you don't have. It's hard in the society we live in, there is constant pressure to be "better" because enough in your eyes in never enough in someone else's. Everyone and everything are lining up to tell you that you need to lose weight, wear this, own that, live here, go there, drink this, drive that, work here. But none of that stuff matters.

Introspection is the only thing you need to be happy. It's not THAT complicated.

Depression exists. It can be down to a number of things, like a chemical imbalance.

That is a fact. Why would you say you don't believe a fact?

Cos he's a ridiculous cretin. Ironically its people like him that probably lead to people feeling even shitter about themselves.

I really want to wish depression on him, so he can take his fucking stupid blinkers off, but i'm not that cruel.

Sometimes Ashton, things can happen so suddenly that you can be plunged into the depths of a massive black hole that you have difficulty getting out of and when it's not cause of your own mistakes of doing it can make it harder to get out of. It does exist. Ms Rural is the strongest person I know, she has had more shit in her life than some would be able to ever cope with yet she rose above everything. One day something most of you on here couldn't even start to imagine happened and it plunged her within the hour so deep that even she battled to get back up. It does exist. The key is that when you get back up you learn, move forward and help others when you can. Ms Rural now supports people with mental health and she is renowned in the support she gives to them who need it at they're hour of need. IT DOES EXIST!

I used to take a similar view to Ashton, and there is some validity in it. However I had a tough two years and with hindsight I now realise that I was probably a bit poorly. (around the time we were playing 5a side) And I have to confess to being irritated with myself for not coping with the issues presented and somewhat 'falling to bits'. It has been an eye opener.

Good to hear you got this thing called "life" figured out.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Its like not believing in brain damage.

The body is a machine and like all machines, parts break down. The brain is obviously the most complicated because thought process and emotion triggers chemicals. Chemical imbalance can make the brain do strange things.

You may have noticed this on a lesser level when you drink a large amount of alcohol.

Or do you not believe that people can get drunk either?

He really is a horrible place right now.

""Just over a week ago, I hit rock bottom and decided to end it all."

We usually hear about these lows in people's lives months, or even years, after their lowest ebb, when they are functioning okay again having sought help. The fact that this was only about a week ago suggests he is at a very tricky stage right now. I can sympathise with him, because I have gone from riding high and having the time of my life to finding myself penniless and practically destitute with nowhere to turn. That this can happen to a well paid footballer shows how most of us are just one run of bad luck, or bad choices, away from having our world crash down around our ears. Nothing good should ever be taken for granted.
