Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

City 'Haven't Got What It Takes To Win The League'

Postby King Kev » Fri Jan 20, 2012 1:38 pm

There seems to be a growing number of players and ex-players going to the press and shooting their mouths off about City not having what it takes to win the league. Their argument seems to be that because we haven’t done it for so long, we don’t understand what is needed to finish the job.

Whilst I accept that City as a club are a little wet behind the ears when it comes to winning titles, our playing staff certainly aren’t!

I had a quick look at who of our current squad has won domestic league before, the findings are quite encouraging!

    Kolo Toure
    Vincent Kompany
    Gael Clichy
    Nigel de Jong
    Yaya Toure
    Edin Dzeko
    Mario Balotelli
    Owen Hargreaves
    Wayne Bridge
That’s 9 players we have at the club who know what it takes to win a league, we can also add Mancini and Kidd to the list of league winners, and of course Spanish Dave has a World Cup winners medal.

I am going to have to disagree with such luminaries as Les Ferdinand, Mark Lawrenson, Denis Irwin, Harry Redknapp and all the others and say that City have exactly the right people in place to bring the league title to the Etihad.

Who are all these people saying these things anyway, do they all know what it takes, have these media types been there and done it, bottled it and got it in abundance? The answer is, of course, no. They are using the old cliche to reinsert their favoured teams at the top, without them actually being there. It's just a way of keeping their, and their supporters hopes alive stating that Taggart and his team know how to win the league.

Does Mancini not have the know-how to win the league, has he never won a league before? Or what about the players, have we nobody in the squad who have won league title's, or even Champions League title's for that matter?

And what about the Rag players, have Smalling, Jones, de Gea etc spent a season winning the Premier League, do they have the know-how to win a title, have they got what it takes?

The only thing I know is that we are top of the league and we have a real chance if we do as well in the 2nd half of the season. It's not guaranteed, nothing is but at least we've set a marker for what we want to achieve.

Many of the decent pundits, not affiliated to the Rags are actually predicting us to take it so I'll ask once again, who are these people saying 'We haven't got what it takes'?
In the words of my Old Man, "Life will never be the same without Man City, so get it in while you can".

Yep, we've no chance. Unlike Spurs who of course have a history of carrying off titles - providing of course you discount the past 51 years.

Indeed. Strange that none of the reasons why we are incapable of winning the league seem to apply to tottenham.

Ofcourse they don't, they play free flowing, attack minded beautifull football and thus have scored -18 goals compared to us! That excempts them from such trivialities as "being good enough".

Well - look at it a different way........ How many of the scum red bastard players have this 'special experience'??
and I mean properly - not just in the wings

Not that many when you look closely at it and most of them that do seem to be in general having their skills level woefully exposed this season - e.g. Evra - or cannot seem to go more than a couple of games without injury

Of course they have their new midield signing - but if that is a positive ('cos lets face he has looked absolute shit) - well then KK can have Wayne Bridge for me

I think that these claims are stupid..that we dont have what it takes. thats just dumb.

but also, i dont really think that the number of players on our team with domestic title medals makes a difference.
if it did, then we would still be in the champs league as we have a number of players (mostly the same) that had been
in the CL and a few that had even won it.
I'm not really a City fan. I'm just here for attention.
