Trial by Sky !

Postby eastlands-lostboy » Thu Jan 26, 2012 9:24 am

Sky are now beginning to play a bigger part in the outcome of games in a very negative way. Its becoming trial by SKY and it is not a healthy situation even days after an incident its still rumbling on. Referee's used to run games now SKY run them ! A shortage of news stories on a daily basis means the SKY camera's are seeking snippets of info and blowing them up. We are now seeing cricket getting involved in the trivia of SKY looking for pitifull stories. After 50yrs of being involved in sport it is sad to see such lazy jounalism spoiling what used to be an enjoyable pastime.

It's not just Sky, it's also the papers.

I have no problem with the FA looking into incidents missed by the referee during a game and retrospectively charging players. However, how do they decide which ones to consider? If they're going to do it at all, they need to watch every game, from every camera angle to pick up anything missed.

Was Parker's challenge the other day worthy of a card? I was at the match and haven't seen it since (MOTD didn't show it), but it looked bookable from where I was. What about the Johnson one in the first leg of the cup? the ref obviously saw it, but was he right or wrong? As discussed at length, you don't need to catch someone for it to be a booking, so can a ref definitely tell at full speed? Surely in the interests of fairness, every decision should be considered after the event and the right card awarded if necessary?

Personally, I'd rather we just left the ref and his two assistants to get on with it. If they miss an axe murder behind them, then so be it. But we can't continue with the current half way house, where some incidents are looked at and others aren't. As the OP said, the decision on what to look at is now with the media. The same media who employ a lot of current and ex-players or managers. They're bound to be biased and you know what to expect from them, but they can't therefore be the ones deciding which incidents should be looked at again. At the moment, the whole thing is bent. Not necessarily for us or against us, but just generally bent.

i'd be in favour of a citing system similar to the one used in rugby union - not sure if they use it in league as well?

if a team feels that an opposition player has committed a foul that was missed by the officials they can ask an indepent panel to review it. this would mean that it would be up to the clubs and not the media to decide which decisions need reviewing....

As someone mentioned on another thread; this is the danger if tv replays are used more in football. It's down to a bunch of people to decide what needs looking at & then decide how it is interpreted.

There is a perfectly good argument which means Balotelli cannot possibly be proven guilty, yet he has been. We could end up with a ref referring a pen or red card decision to the tv panel of Bryan Robson, Graeme Poll & Tony Cottee.

Not just Sky, but the BBC too. Last night 5 Live, led by Alan Green and Graham Taylor, were demanding that Lescott be punished for the "forearm smash" at the weekend, even more so than Green had already done at length on 606 on Sunday. Needless to say, the Green/Taylor commentary last night was nothing short of a disgrace, with both waxing lyrical about Liverpool from start to finish and Taylor adamantly repeating that the foot-to-arm ricochet was a "definite penalty". But there's no anti-City conspiracy, of course...

As Mancini said, if they are going to look at video evidence they need to look at everything. Every PL game, not just the ones our opponents and the media want them to.

Good old Phil Brown - How wrong can one cunt be with such few words??!

City's biggest rivals in the title race are neighbours Manchester United and Brown expects Sir Alex Ferguson to crank up the mind games as the season nears its conclusion.

And he said that the United boss has proved he was one step ahead of the rest when he controversially allowed Tevez to leave Old Trafford and join City in 2009.

Brown added: "If you take your mind back two years ago when Sir Alex Ferguson sold Carlos Tevez, he not only sold him to another Premier League club, but he sold him to the blue side of Manchester.

"At the time you could almost say he was pilloried in the press. He was receiving all sorts of problems from supporters of Manchester United for selling such a prized asset.

"But once again the man who everybody looks up to in terms of football management has pulled off a masterstroke.

"He's now at Manchester City, one of his main rivals for the Premier League title, and I think quite simply if Carlos Tevez doesn't leave Manchester City in the next four or five days that saga will continue over the next two or three months.

"It could conceivably cost Man City the title."

Holy fuck, what a knob.

I'm surprised Taggart hasn't long since crossed Brown off his Christmas card list. What good can he have for an out of work nobody?

When you walk down Market Street and there is a pisscan in an old stained brown coat, sat on a bench shouting the odds about everything and anything, do you take the seat next to him and listen intently? Or do you glance accross, smile and ignore the shite he is spewing ontothe pavement?

So why the fucl do you take any notice of the pisscans in suits that do the same in TV studios?
