Guidetti v Verthongen

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Guidetti v Verthongen

Postby Ted Hughes » Sun Jan 29, 2012 12:27 pm

Feyenord v Ajax. Our 4th striker v a poss future Cb.

Just thought I'd let you's know in case you were interested, it's on ESPN now, half time. Feyenord 2 Ajax 1 Guidetti 2.

Verthongen is class on the ball but after one excellent run forward he overstretched himself & tackled Guidetti from behind. Won the ball but it left the ref with a decision to make. Reckless imo. Guidetti scored pen & then a poacher's goal.

The lad still has a strange run on him & can still look clumsy as fuck but he's deffo got something, there is no doubt. He's got attitude too, loads of it. He's got a chance at 19, there's no doubt about that. He'll be worth a go next season to see if he can step up again.

Watched the game. Definitely worth considering that the quality of leagues are vastly different.

Even though he scored three he didn't really impress that much really. A well taken penalty, a tap in and a good finish one on one. Nice enough goals, yeah, but I get the impression at the highest level he'd struggle as his game seems pretty limited. Might be wrong though, but I can't see him being good enough for us. He'll score for fun in the Eredivise though.

What I like about him is that he looks like he wants to score as soon as his team gets the ball; he sets off into a danger area, always tring to make the life of the Cbs uncomforatable. When the ball goes wide he's off into the space between or behind the Cb's in an instant & you know that if the ball comes into his area, he's going to cause a load of commotion & problems whether he wins it or not. If Dzeko had his mentality, he would score 100 goals a season. Someone like Giggs would find Guidetti very easy to feed.

It's just whether his unorthadox style translates to the Prem. When people are scoffing at his two consecutive hat tricks though; if Rooney gets 3 v Ajax, there will be a country wide arse kissing fiesta. Nobody will say 'oh it's only Ajax & one was a penalty'.

13 games in 29 days and 14 goals? That is some going. Fair play to the lad.

I hope he can come back and do the business for us. I really do.

For what it's worth, I don't really mind if a player looks unimpressive if he puts the ball in the net. But ideally he will complement what is around him at City next season.

I watched this game today and have to say I was impressed with Guidetti's first touch, his hold up play and his awareness, it all seemed top notch.

Afonso Alves - On 7 October 2007, in only his second appearance of the season, Alves scored seven goals in his side's 9–0 victory over Eredivisie rivals Heracles Almelo, setting a new Eredivisie record for most goals scored in a single match.

He had a spell with Middlesbrough.

Wish we could get Giudetti back. If not to play for us then to loan him to another premier league team. As others have said, the Dutch league is very different and it would be good for him to get used to two footed tackles and kicks in the face that go unpunished. If he could score for Wigan or Bolton we'd have a hell of a player next season

Ha ha! It was only because Heracles didn't have a good, bald holding midfielder.

Patrick Vieira where there at the game and apparently talked at length with John Guidetti after the game. No clues about what though.

Also, Marcus Allbäck, assistant coac to head coach Erik Hamrén from the Swedish national footy team where there to watch the young pedigree.

Not a bad showing by John.
