I caught the end of something yesterday . Is this true ... Since fergie got a 5 game ban for slagging off Atkinson , Atkinson has not done a united game for 11 months?? How can any ref avoid a team for that long with such a small pool of 'top' refs? Also he was due to do the game at anfield yesterday but pulled out due to sickness!!

This is true yes. Ferguson wasn't happy with his reffing so, as with other refs previously, he has been coincidentally absent form reffing any Manchester Utd games for a long period since then. If he does ok by Fergie when he next gets a chance, then perhaps he'll be ok to ref another, but if not, he'll probably coincidentally miss another years worth of Utd games.

this as got to be investigated along with geoff winter who wrote a similair article having sent off roy keane at the cesspit.
never got to ref there again while reffing every other club 5or six times in the same timeframe.

I don't think this proves anything but the fact the two don't like each other.To me this says that Atkinson has not reffed a scum game because he would be looking for the slightest reason to do Bacon or his team hence showing bias against him.Think this only shows Bacon thinks there is bias against him

did you read the link about winter, thats 2 then if he slags anymore refs off theyll be getting em from the sunday league. not only that ,it shits up all the other refs who go there, cos im sure these articles are read by them. and taggart knows it will be all over every back page in the country.

So it is true! Unbelievable!! Actually very believable . How the hell does he get away with it!! Read that other thread about only 4 papers being allowed at his press conferences ! It's embarrassing

Thing is the impact it has on all refs. If you have a 50:50 decision eg a penalty appeal, I'm convinced refs can't 'know' what happened. You've only got to see the arguments that go I despite all motion replays from 4 angles to know they haven't a chance. They therefore make a judgement based on what they saw and hope they've got it right.

Thing is, if you have Martinez or Colye etc moaning about a decision which cost them the match, they'll get 10 seconds on MOTD, followed by the old guard laughing at them in the studio. Get it wrong for the rags and it'll be in the papers for days with your integrity being questioned.

In that case, if you really weren't sure what the decision should be, what would you do? Assuming I wasn't so biased against the rags, I know what my decision would be. It's my career, after all.

I found it quite a shock to discover in this thread that Bacon picks the refs for his matches.I had thought it was the people who arrange the fixtures.Did not realize that Bacon had that much power but seeing as that has been pointed out these conspiracies make sense.
I was a bit confused as to why Bacon would pick Atkinson to ref such an important game although the silly sod threw in a sickie.No wonder they lost-

bacon didnt pick him did he, the fa pick them with bacons opinion taken into account. someone overlooked the fact and decided to change the ref for him.only their that shit they lost anyway.
