Brilliant City

Just thought I'd share with you how amazing City are at the moment. I might have mentioned at some point that my little brother Ben has Cerebral Palsy and is in a wheelchair. We sit in the Family Stand and the head steward there has been in talks with City about getting disabled children on to be a mascot. Garry Cook was all for it when he was at the club and obviously he's not here anymore so I emailed the club to enquire whether this was something they were still looking into.

The woman who emailed me back said she wasn't aware of anything but invited Ben down to yesterday's match to have a tour of the ground and meet the players ( he loved it!).

In the meantime the steward trying to sort this out has had a sample of a covering to lay on the grass for the wheelchair sent to her and has tested it and all seems fine (it won't damage the pitch, honest). Brian Kidd is 100% behind this and wants it to happen and she's also in the process of asking the players to donate a bit of money to make it happen.

I just think it's brilliant that the club are doing this and as far as I'm aware, City will be the first premiership club to have a mascot in a wheelchair to come onto the pitch!

Top notch by City but more importantly, what a gift for your kid. Hope he has a fantastic experience, and something for all the family to enjoy for years to come.

Sometimes you just realise, it doesn't get any better than this.

There should be no question over a kid in a chair being a mascot it should just happen and whatever adaptation is needed the club should be able to sort it no problemo! Your right though it doesn't happen often, think I saw a kid with Downs as a mascot a while back cannot remember which match though not a City one.

Hope it happens for the lad and he has a top day out. :-)

On a side note Leanne if you ever want a bit of impartial advice on any issues you may come across with your Brother feel free to get in touch! :-)

Jim x

Great to hear that the club are happy to look into creating an even playing field (please excuse the pun) for able bodied and disabled people, I hope you'll keep us posted Leanne.

Fair play to City.
My girlfriends niece is 4 and was born with cerebral palsy. Breaks my heart every time I see her cause she's so full of life but can only put barely three 'steps' together.
Like people have said, get some pics up when it's done. Would be good to see.

He was so happy bless him. Think my dad was more excited though haha. The players were queuing up to sign his autograph book which was quite funny xD. Silva tried to sneak past but my dad clocked him and shouted for him for a picture. Silva tried to cut in front of Johnson who told him to get to the back of.the queue haha. Thanks for the nice messages everyone. Really hope they can get this going and if it happens I'll post plenty of pics x
