Just in the car on the way to the game and were discussing how many players have won the euros/world cup whilst on City's books.

Don't think there will be many! Any help?

Silva wasn't on our books when he won. Papers were signed and sealed after he came back.

We've never had one yet.

Bloody hell! We had said silva but if he's not had it then that's a surprise. I'm sure one or two will be on their way soon! :)

It's not a surprise really, if you think about it. The influx of foreigners into the Premiership only truly started in the early 80s, and started to boom in the mid-late 90s. In that time (since 1982), the World Cup has been competed for eight times, three of which it's been won by South American nations, whose players have never really come to the Premiership en masse. Euros-wise, there have been seven competitions, probably with a few players in the Prem at the time.

Also, the European ban post-Heysel probably deterred a lot of top-end foreigners (especially those wanting to catch the attention of their National coach) from plying their trade in England.

In fact, World Cup 66 squad aside, I'd guess there are less than 10 clubs who've had World Cup or Euro Champions on their books in England.
