http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17540540Manchester City executive Patrick Vieira says title rivals Manchester United benefit from preferential treatment from referees.
His comments come two days after visitors Fulham were controversially denied a late penalty in their 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.
The result left United three points clear at the top of the league.
"When United play at home they get some advantage that other teams don't get," Vieira told BBC Sport.

Patrick Vieira
"I think when you go to United, Madrid, Barcelona, or Milan, when the referees referee these kind of games, it's always difficult to go against these kind of teams.
"This is the way it is.
"It's something the teams who are used to winning get all the time, so we need to win games so we have this advantage in the future."
With eight games left, City find themselves three points behind United, but Vieira - who took up a post as football development executive at Eastlands after retiring from playing - believes they would be worthy champions.
Speaking at the Soccerex conference in Manchester, Vieira said: "This is our moment.
"Since the start of the season we've been the best team and played the best football.
"I believe the club deserves it."
However, Vieira also admitted that United are in pole position to claim a second successive title.
"When you are first you have the advantage, they are favourites" he said
Vieira recently said that United's decision to bring Paul Scholes out of retirement was a sign of weakness.
In response, Sir Alex Ferguson accused City of an act of desperation when allowing Carlos Tevez to play despite going on strike.
Vieira said: "We're glad Carlos is back. The quality of these kind of players will be really important at this stage of the season.
"The issue was between him and the club. The players were really pleased to see him back.
"Its important not to lose focus, so many things can happen.
"People try to build this fire between the clubs. The heat is going to get more and more."

I do wish everyone would just shut the fuk up and play football. Its getting a bit like kids in a playground and its boring. I would rather Paddy come out and explain what has gone on with our away form instead of bitch about refs, it make us look bitter.

Dead right. Great guy, Patrick, but he should keep off the sour grapes and ask why City didn't beat Everton, Swansea, and Stoke. Nine points there instead of one and City would have this championship sewn up.

Our displays at Fulham, West Brom and Sunderland weren't exactly helpful either.

Expecting us to win evey game away is ridiculous. Playing in a fair league isn't. Our away form dropped off just about the same time referees started taking the piss out of us. Coincidence? Is it fuck. So talking about our away form without talking about the ref's is half a story and is nonsense.

He does sound bitter. Every single team including the rags can point to decisions throughout the season what have gone against them. I would Spurs have had some pretty horrific ones from memory with them scoring several on side goals that were disallowed and you could point to our game with them, where you could argue that Mario shouldn’t have even been on the pitch to be tripped up by King and score the pen.
I just want us to get our heads down as a collative unit and try and dig ourselves of the mess we have gotten ourselves into. We could have been clear by now. Less talking and more working IMO to get some wins under our belts.

Agreed.
Also, what I find interesting is who is pulling the strings currently at the club and who is sanctioning him to make these comments. I can't accept that these are just off-the-cuff remarks. Seems planned to me. Maybe I'm reading too much in to it but it seems odd for a bloke in his position to be coming out with stuff like this.

Agreed that there is no way these are off-the-cuff comments. I think the timing is very interesting in that its still a few weeks from the Derby, but exactly the time we need to highlight the hand we are currently being dealt. Surely if nothing else it means there will be an actual focus in the referee's performance at the Blackburn game and hopefully the whole run in.
I agree with the theory that it makes us look bitter to an extent. But it is Vieira rather than Mancini or one of the players, so they are a step removed (unlike Sir B, Ferdinand et all who cant shut up about us). THe comments were made at the Soccerex conference in Manchester today where he is representing all the good things that we are currently trying to promote.
At the end of the day, its Business so we have to stand up for ourselves when we are being treated unfairly. I like the subtle method. If heaven forbid, some journo runs with the story and goes digging that we can all supply the details that show that he's right.
Be interesting to see how it pans out

This has now come out with Paddy claming its bollocks......
"Patrick Vieira has expressed his disappointment and anger at what he feels is a serious and cynical misrepresentation of an interview he gave to the BBC.
Manchester City’s Football Development Executive gave the interview at the annual SoccerEx exhibition at the GMEX Convention Centre on Wednesday afternoon. He was representing Football Against Hunger, a campaign to tackle starvation in Africa.
An interview given to the BBC’s Dan Roan contained what Patrick feels was a very leading line of questions regarding Manchester United supposedly receiving favourable treatment by referees. Patrick feels that his views have been deliberately taken out of context.
He said: “I am very angry with Dan Roan. I feel he has misrepresented me. I made it clear in the interview twice that I wanted to avoid criticising United and even stated that I didn’t watch the United game against Fulham and had not seen the incident to which the reporter referred.
“That part of the interview was ignored and my comments were taken completely out of context. I called the reporter twice to ask for a retraction and an apology which has not come. I feel Dan Roan and the BBC have shown a complete lack of respect for me, the ‘Football Against Hunger’ charity and Manchester City Football Club.”
Manchester City support Patrick in his strong feelings on this matter and have confirmed to the BBC that the reporter will now be banned from all Manchester City media activity.
Chief Communications Officer, Vicky Kloss, said: “Despite the Charity arranging the interview with Dan Roan for the purposes of promoting the Football Against Hunger campaign, the reporter pursued a leading and aggressive line of questioning, through which Patrick was very careful to tread a diplomatic path.
“A misrepresentative article by Dan Roan appeared on the BBC’s website a short time later which omitted significant comments of clarification and took the interview completely out of context. Manchester City promotes a positive and welcoming approach to media outlets, however it is felt, in the absence of any correction or apology that there is no option but to issue an immediate ban to Dan Roan from future media activity.”

They should ban the whole BBC until the story is retracted AND a public apology is received from the puerile little scroat that did the misrepresenting.

So, the BBC are at it now. The last Bastion of hope has just diminished itself to the gutter press. Agenda/Bias, call it what you will, this should be an eye opener for those who haven't/wanted to see it before.
PS. Well done Paddy.
PPS. I've just listened to the interview and you can clearly see how the BBC misrepresents Paddy. Paddy's quite honest and says nothing out of the ordinary. I won't post the link as the Beeb (who are part of my matchday) are now banned from my browsing.

The boss of the BBC Sport website is one Howard Nurse, who openly claims to be a fan of Man United and Scarborough, ie he's likely from Scarborough but as the local team is shite, he latched on to the media darling as a glory seeker.
How do you expect impartiality? The BBC website openly uses a Utd blogger to report on City's finances ffs.
As Oliver Kay at The Times pointed out this evening - What are Man City playing at? Airing wild conspiracy theories about refs? Banning journos? No club wins titles behaving like that. Erm

I was thinking before I logged on that it would be interesting to see how the rest of the press/media reports this "story"...torn between wanting to kick the bbc at every possible juncture and wanting to be snidey against City...hmm tough one!

Got BBC News 24 on now and they have just reapeated the original story as fact and in a two line sentence said that "Mr Vieria feels he has been misrepresented" ... BBC are cents

Most level headed Rags I know openly admit that they believe U*d get a disproportionate amount of calls in their favour at the swamp. Everyone gets calls in their favour at home, naturally because of the pressure from the crowd but at more high profile succesful clubs that pressure intensifies which in turn sees the likes of U*d getting more than their fair share.
Even Graham Poll has alluded to this since he retired, yet you patronise people for holding this belief, why?
