Some Good News

None really with the 3.3 draw v Sunderland but I did also see some of the under 18's game also v Sunderland.Just the first half but it was 2 nil when I left and stayed like that so I think we are still a good few points clear at the top with not many games left. That's not bad news but one of our goalscorers was Marcos Lopes and he looks a good prospect.

Only just 16 I think and of fairly slight build but he definitely looks like he can play. Started wide left but scored his goal from the right side albeit it was a goalmouth scramble.Just thought he was anything but overawed for a debut at this age and looked to have a good touch. The first goal ,scored by Jordy Mayifuila, was pure quality. He made a move down the middle and called for a long ball which I think Huws delivered and he met it on the volley with great control into the roof of the net.

I also got 10 minutes or so looking at the under 16's and got a first look at Pozo (is that the rightname?) who is also just 16.He played up front and looked class.Again there isnt much of him but he seemd to have a great touch and 2 good feet. Cant wait to see more of these two guys.

Leaving early at the junior level as well? A disgrace you are Doug.

I jest, a little bit. It felt good though. Doug disgrace has alliteration. Dougy doug disgrace done dirty down divvy.

I wish I was drunk.

Jordy whatcamacallit is the same bloke as Jordi Hiwula apparently (just in case anyone was confused).

Just to join in the general upcheering, here's a recap of Marcos Lopes (aka Rony):

Well, blow me. Didn't know you were there Doug!

Was there myself until just after 2 and then hotfooted it across town for the main feature Lol. Used to be pretty much up on the youth players but have lost touch a little bit over the last couple of seasons but thought I would take advantage of an invite to nip along yesterday.

Must admit that I didn't really see much of the games as I was a bit busy with rubbing shoulders but thought we looked fairly comfortable at u18 level against what has now become the hallmark of a pretty physical Sunderland side althought to be fair not as phsical as the two games that we played against them in the semis of the FA youth Cup a few seasons ago.

Just to update you on the league side of things heading into the easter break when, I think I'm right in saying that the u18's head off to Abu Dhabi, and the u16's are off to Italy/Spain for there respective easter tournaments.

All four leading sides won in the league yesterday, leaving us with three games to play, all away, to Derby, Crewe and Stoke a win and a draw should see us home as winners of the group. Currently we have played 25 and have 54 points, Blackburn are 5 points behind and Liverpool 6, having played the same amount of games and Wolves are six points behind having played a game more. That lot have amassed 20 points from 21 games or something like that.

So we aren't as dominant as we have been in recent seasons but there has been quite a lot of transition over the last couple of seasons. But we do have a history of pissing the league and then capitulating when we come to the group playoffs

The U18's seem to be holding their nerve and form more than the first team at the moment :) Let's hope they can go on to win the whole thing this year. There is alot of good talent coming through the ranks so let's hope some of them make it through to the first team.
