What is it with Garth Crooks?

He's such a strange fella. I don't get what his deal is at all.

How on earth has he carved out a broadcasting career? I've never known anyone look so uncomfortable in front of a camera or talk such little sense when asked to give an opinion on the spot. He either waffles shite, paraphrases the question in response, or just states the most obvious thing imaginable.

I've nothing against him, like. He just sort of gives me the heebie-jeebies. Has anyone ever met him at a sportsman's dinner or anything? Does he seem as weird in person?

Or is it just me?

He's perfect for tee vee, he can talk with the utmost confidence for minutes on end without actually saying anything. (and yes he seems like an odd fellow to me too)

You won't get a differing opinion from me. Such a strange fish that one.

Agreed.

Something very odd about him. Never been able to put my finger on it but there's just something about him that doesn't seem right.

His association with the bcc has always puzzled me. He offers very little, was no more than an ordinary footballer, yet has carved out a long and no doubt rewarding career with them. I think he probably benefited from positive discrimination in the early part of his tv career but why the bbc have stuck with him for so long I fail to see.

Just weird all round.

Indeed. "Token" is the word that springs to mind.

The BBC should have got Chris Kamara but a) he is from too far north; b) he is far too interesting and knowledgeable, plus he has got some charisma; c) he didn't play for tottenham (though he did play for just about everybody else).

Don't really dislike or think he is great either.Find him alright most of the time but wouldn't be upset if he is replaced.Seems pretty harmless to me.
As for the weird bit he looks quite normal to me dont know though he might be.

I can't stand the fat gutted, arrogant so and so; he gives mediocrity a bad name. He's just a blinkered 'Tottingham' cretin.

Because of all the timber he's carrying around the waist-line, I refer to him as 'Girth Crooks'. Never could stand him as a footballer either.

He reminds me of one of those cone heads that used to advertise Strongbow(?) about 15 years ago, but after being melted slightly.

speaking of weirdo garth crooks ... he had some interesting stats from him team of the week selection:

Did you know? Kolarov produced 16 crosses in open play this weekend, only once has a player made more in a Premier League game this season (Matt Jarvis with 17 versus Newcastle in October).

Did you know? Balotelli has scored a goal every 94 minutes this season, the best rate in the Premier League for all players who have played at least 1000 minutes. (heard this one before)

and one for fun:

Did you know? Adebayor has scored (four) or assisted (five) nine of Tottenham's last 12 Premier League goals.

And how many did Dzeko connect with? Kolarov put some great balls in the box on Saturday. T'was crying out for a striker to attack them.

Anyway, Crooks out.

Garth can be quite condescending and has little insight or analysis worthy of listening to.

He must have incriminating photos of someone high up in the BBC, as that can be the only explanation to his continued presence on their programming.
