Aprils fools games

Postby bigblue » Sun Apr 01, 2012 1:22 pm

the dippers look set for another loss as Cisse, Afra, Ba, and Tiote have played them off the park. Newcastle look like they're playing a lower league team. Doesn't help that Carroll is stumbling around and some of the dipper's players are complete shit (Flanagan, Shelby)

Some of Cisse's holdup play and foot work with 3/4 pool players around him is incredible. quite a player

and yet Lpool have had more chances/openings to score in that first 15/20 minutes with Carroll looking good. Then he decides to do Suarez and dive followed by Newcastle going up and scoring from their first opportunity.

Yeah, I did miss the first 10 mins of the game - but apparently Bellamy was getting free on right almost every attack.

Looking for Cisse to get 2 more, Suarez to headbutt the post (and knock out his buckteeth), and Kenny to have a mental breakdown in the post match interview

I wonder if Newcastle could be tempted to swap Cisse for a young, hot headed enigma who plays in the same position?

You could buy and pay five Cisse's for what we paid for and are paying Balo and Dzeko.

But it would cost at least a Balo and Dzeko to assemble the scouting team to find 5 Cisses. Good luck

I completely believe it. Do you honestly believe that finding 5 Cisses wouldn't come at a cost? If it was so easy to find players like this, every team would be doing it

Its not as if Cisse has come from the darkest parts of Africa where they've not electricity or running water, he's come from Germany (Freiberg?) and the scouting team pretty much consists of Graham Carr going round France watching players repeatedly and creating dossiers! They do their homework yes, but they do everything they can to minimise their risk when making signings.

Cisse might be the type of player that is world class at a smaller club and mediocre at a big one. What really surprised me is that he settled really quick in the Premier (maybe because of Ba) and now he looks like he was playing here for ages.

Well Cabaye, Tiote and Cisse suggest Newcastle have a very good scout.

Perhaps we should swap Balo for Cisse and Dzeko for their scout?

you would spend 52M on a scouting team to find 5 young up and coming strikers?

think about it...and realistically, look around, there are LOADS of young promising strikers. Loads of them. They are the footballing equivalent of Running Backs in the NFL. Sure, your top tier are a cut above, but just below that there's an awful lot of promise and a lot of kids who could do a job if given half a chance.

Newcastle apparently also do quite a bit of statistical analysis when looking at players too. When put through the right algorithms, stats can be good indicators for how likely a player will flourish. Same thing happened in baseball 10 years ago and is happening in football now. But a good analyst doesn't come cheap (as you're competing with wall street salary wise).

Moneyball...i've read the book, it's class.

they were mentioning it this morniing of 5 live. Finding a correlation between football statistics and winning games of football would be harder i imagine but i remember when Carroll signed for the red scouse, they had some formula that seemed to justify what they were saying, shame they didn't factor in Dalglish exposing all his weaknesses and non of his strenghs.

That is a good shout mate.

He was getting absolutely murdered of the "incredible toon army" when he was first appointed, being a southern softy and not being born within a mile of the shithole that is Newcastle.

A very astute manager who has learned his trade well.
