The Great Football Illusion

Funny isn't it..for 38 games between August and May we tear our hair out..ride a tide of elation..desperation..hatred..happiness..sadness..every emotion conceivable

Just for a team of 11 players kicking an inflated sack around in our team colours

But take a step back and you realise..it doesn't matter how well your team does

Promotion
Relegation
Cup Run
Title Challenge
FA Cup or the Johnsons Paint Cup

No matter what..after a summer of Aussie Rules Football

We are back again for more of the same regardless

What I'm trying to say is regardless of whether we win the league or not..we will still turn up next year full of optimism and go through it all again

If we don't win it this year, I'm out! ;-)

Yup will still continue my love affair with City win, lose or draw through thick and thin! Think I have said a few times recently that I will feel shit should we miss out but won't be for long as we will win it one day soon and I will be back next season with enthusiasm and hope!

Funny, we argue between ourselves but ultimately we will all be the same, back next season high hopes and raring to go... It's the nature of the game. I've almost forgot we are th current fa cup holders. A year changes everything.

The more educated on here might correct me. In Greek mythology, wasn't it Sisyphus who, having been cast into Hades, was condemned to spend his days rolling a rock up hill only for it to roll back to the bottom so he had to start all over again.

and according to Camus, we "must imagine Sisyphus happy." Quite fitting for City fans over the years I feel

You missed out; give up the fucking ghost with 20 odd points to play for because we're all Ferguson's little bitches.

it is not funny at all. if it isn't your thing why bother the rest of us. some people plan holidays years in advance, i live week by week . when this season is over i know that next season starts. i know in winter i put my warm coat on to walk my dog . Now that is more profound than that wanker Cantona can come up with and i didn't shrug my shoulders !

I never mentioned anything about not believing we can win it this year

Believe it or not Ted this thread is exactly what it says on the tin

What weird little lives we live as football fans

If we didn't win the league would the sky fall in?

I'd guess at no

Yet somehow football gives you the illusion that it would

I'm 100% confident that our time in the sun is coming

That..if anything..is the over-riding factor that will make me smile through the summer should we fuck it up

What does Aussie rules have to do with it? Pick your nose and hand in your man card, or shuffle it or something.

To me, the 'sky falling in' scenario ended years ago, when Pearce went.

All we've had since is a club on the up. Each season has seen the team get stronger & the club get bigger yet most people seem to suffer from exactly the same miserable outlook as they did when Pearce was in charge.

Playing to try & win a title is no kind of pressure compared to playing for promotion or to avoid relegation; it's an absolute doddle.

Im as relaxed as the next man for our future prospects, but it doesnt mean that because we think we can win it next season, we should be complacent about the failings of this.

All the rumours about my Sisyphus are false. And I did NOT get it from my missus.
