won't mean much to the johnny come latelies or younger fans on here but heard a sad tale about gerry tonight...
my wife comes from gerry's hometown, coatbridge - just outside glasgow. anyway, we've got her cousin down or a couple of days who knows gerry from school. apparently, he's a banned from nearly all the pubs town for being a drunken loon. he's also delivering takeaways to make ends meet.
crazy to think that we paid over a million for him....
must be gutting for so many old pros looking at today's players earning stupid amounts of cash and being made for life at the age of 22/23....

Since he's not a player I got too see regularly does your condescending opening paragraph prohibit me from replying?
If not you're right it is a sad thing to see, money in football has gone mental and sadly it doesn't back pay. That said being sensible with what you earn and not becoming an alco goes a long way towards a happy life after football.

i think you should have been more polite and waited for the OP to respond to your question before making that decision on your own.
cheers

Remember him well he was one of a long list of strikers that flopped that we had paid well over the odds for. It's amazing how badly City spent the money when we had so little of it.It may sound harsh saying this but he was probably on the booze when he was at city he was terrible. He was here about 3 years and probably scored as many goals.

Like about 15-20% of Scottish people, basically.
Although I'm sure I heard it before, just checked on Wikipedia, and I'm amazed we got him in a swap involving Paul Walsh. I thought we'd bought him in the post-Ball era.

Leave that shit out.
Should Never have gotten rid of Walsh could give two fucks about Gerry Creaney. I remember thinking we were on the way up because we got Nigel Clough. It was a happy time in my life though. Kinky was just around the corner, Mars bar mobile phones Rosler Curle Phelan, Eike Immel. Steve Lomas(Judas).
Mahvelous.

I'm just surprised it's taken this long tbh.
He played like he'd just come out of the pub & looked like he'd just come out of the pub. I'm sorry for him if he suffers from alcoholism & hope he recovers, but delivering pizzas is what he should have been doing rather than dining out on my fucking season ticket money.

Agreed. Rougher than a Camels arse in a sandstorm.
Gerry liked a tipple when he played, so its hardly a surprise that he's gone down this path. Dont wish him any ill, but from the general story about his drinking habits as a player, he has clearly failed to give up the booze. Lets hope he can deliver a Pizza a lot better than he could a pass or a cross.

I don't.
Fortunately when I moved up here the folks were wise enough to chose one of the nicer towns outside Edinburgh as our home.
Some shit holes in and around Glasgow but Coatbridge is the up there with the worst. Absolute hell hole.
As for Creaney, sad that's it's turned out as it has but I have little sympathy. Any footballer with a head on their shoulders can carve a career out of the game after they finish playing if they have the will.

Poor Gerry, atleast he lived the high live for a short time.
I remember Rosler doing an interview about how pissed off he was we swapped Walsh for Creaney, also basically Gerry off saying he just didnt have the quality. How right he was.

Fat knob who had reasonable ability but put in zero effort. Even back then I imagine he'd have been earning around £7k a week for us and would've earned something comparable at Celtic. He was given plenty of money with which to feather his fat-arsed nest at our expense without ever earning it so he'll get no sympathy from me I'm afraid.
Yes, alcoholism is a serious addiction with often tragic consequences. But I remember him as someone we signed to help us arrest our slide and he fleeced us. I can forgive shit players who were out of their depth, but not those who simply couldn't be arsed.

I was only a kid when I had to watch the fat twat play but getting rid of my favourite player at the time (Paul Walsh) for him nearly turned me away from City.

Lets hope Gerry doesnt read this thread looking for positive thoughts.
PS - He was a useless, fat, piss-headed twunt so I concur with the assertions of many on here.
