Whats this all about?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17776637Manchester City fans start campaign for Roberto Mancini
By Katie Wright
BBC Sport
Manchester City supporters have started a campaign to show their support for manager Roberto Mancini.
The fans have set up a "Respect Roberto Mancini" petition and organised a campaign on Twitter urging the club to retain him as manager even if City fail to win the Premier League title.
Mancini has seen his side's challenge falter and they are now five points behind leaders Manchester United.
There has been speculation linking Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho with his job.
Manchester City's 6-1 victory over arch-rivals Manchester United in October put them five points clear at the top of the league and they remained there until March, when a run of just one win in five matches saw their title hopes fade.
Mancini's City record
Games played: 137
Won: 81
Lost: 30
Drawn: 26
Mancini, who has one year remaining on his contract, has endured a difficult year after high-profile arguments with strikers Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli.
However, despite increasing speculation about Mancini's future, a group of Manchester City fans believe the Italian, who ended the club's 35-year wait for a trophy with last year's FA Cup triumph, is still the right man for the job.
"I'd be devastated if he left and a lot of City fans would be," said mcfcforum.com part-owner Andy Savage, whose website has helped with the campaign.
"At the moment he's not committing his future, so the campaign is to show our support. We'd love him to stay and the majority of fans want him to stay. He knows the fabric of the club and gets on really well with the fans."
The petition to keep the 47-year-old former Inter Milan boss has so far had more than 1,000 signatures.
"The campaign is to show support for what he's done as he has not been getting enough respect. We'd like him to at least see out the remainder of his contract, but ideally get a new one," added Savage.
However, Savage insists the fans' campaign is about showing their support, rather than criticising owner Sheikh Mansour, who brought in Mancini after sacking Mark Hughes in December 2009.
"It is not about criticising the owners or putting pressure on them," he said.
"Over the past few months, journalists have been having a go at Mancini and put pressure on him by saying his job is not safe. But the last thing we need is to be chopping and changing our manager.
"I can't see the owners doing it to be honest. They've brought him in, he's their man and I genuinely feel they've got a great relationship."
Is there really a need for this right now when we are trying to concentrate on the biggest games of the season?

This sounds like something the rags would come up with so I am inclined to think it is bullshit as most city fans aren't such self important attention seeking wankers.

Apparently its the "brainchild" of a City forum who are quite active on Twitter - sounds rather small time and a bit like the Save Sven campaign.
Perhaps an "Ask Mancini to develop a Plan B and improve City's Away Form" campaign would be more fitting.

The respect campaign happens every game with his name sung loud and proud.1000 names on a petition looks feeble in comparison

Or its a case of seeing who can shout loudest about their point of view? Its impossible to ignore or trivialise the number of people who are not happy with rm, this, if it got traction this would just create clear factions in the ground which is not wanted. I am all for supporting our manager against the press etc, but im not for a totalitarian regime where criticism is banished which is what some people seem to want

haha i started that petition whimsically one morning at work. I genuinely did it for a bit of fun - i meant it, but i didn't think it'd actually go anywhere. Next minute i know i was being interviewed on sky news about it...i stayed well away from the petition presentation etc...it took a life of its own and i couldn't be arsed to be honest and fan clubs took over. Amusing.

Or maybe that's just people expressing an opinion, rather than seeking cheap publicity that embarrasses everyone involved?

with this team shuld do bether he have strong team like Barcelona , or Real or Bayern much stronger then ACMilan or Napoli or Sporting Lisabon but somhow we have disaster in Europe, we have greath start in Premiere with two forwards somwhere in midlle we start playiong with one form fell , then to save season he must put hes head down bring Tevez back but at the end we with one of the strongest team in world get nothing, but in the same time he is won the trhopy for City in long time but u must wonder with this players that is not so big miracle , i think there is bether manegers out there but i would not say that he shuld not get one more season but if after that one we dont win somthing or at list go past group stage in C.L.or at list won Euro leugue where we by players we was the top team with no doubt then possibly we should try somthing else , personely i would like jose to be back he show results whereever he goes , he will win Spanish leugue with that strong Barcelona he will win it an maybe even C.L , have expirience in Premiere so if comes to that i would like to see Jose on Bench
