In a team drawn from the Castrol top club rankings

Image

Sadly I don't think any of our team would make it into my best XI yet which would be

----------------------------------Casillas---------------------------------
Alves-----------------Pique-------------Thiago Silva----------------Lahm
-------------------------------Schweinsteiger------------------------------
----------------Robben-----------Xavi-----------Ambrosini----------------
-------------------------Messi------Ronaldo---------------------------------

Aguero, Hart, Kompany, Yaya and Silva are only a whisker away though and some would have Tevez, Micah and Nasri in there too I'm sure!
(actually Clichy, Barry and Lescott are not the worst in that lot by any means)

Casillas - Debateable (Hart)
Alves - Debateable (Richards. who doesn't spend half his time on the deck trying ot get people sent off and the other half caught up field out of position)
Pique - Not in Kompany's class.
Lahm - Debateable (Perhaps edges Clichy but don't let NQDP read that)
Robben - An on form Silva would be in my team ahead of Robben.
Ambrosini - What??

Hard to argue with the rest in the formation given.

Just reading horizontally along the Castrol thing, the only one I'd nominate for certain is Kompany.

I think everyone accepts now that he's the best CB in the Premiership.

Sky's pick from City and the dark side

Image

(your right about Ambrosini of course but I just think he's a fantastic player even at 34 but even the Italian national managers don't agree with me)

I would only consider Thiago Silva out of the back 5 because of his pace, otherwise I'd pick all ours inc Vinny AND Lescott over that.

Imo, there's an individual shout for Yaya, Silva, Aguero or Tevez in place of some individuals in a genuine balanced team.

I don't think you would put Ronaldo with Robben unless you had two proper centre mids for example. Some of them are 'either' 'or' picks.

Our usual defence plus our usual balanced midfield central 2, plus Xavi, Messi, Ronaldo, then either Aguero or Tevez or Silva would imo be a better team for instance.

That's a good shout apart from Ferdinand, Scholes, Evra & Valencia.

so it's

--------------------------------------------------Hart---------------------------------------------
Richards------------------Kompany--------------------Thiago Silva--------------------Clichy
-------------------Silva----------Yaya----------Xavi----------Ronaldo--------------------------
------------------------------Aguero--------------Messi------------------------------------------

is that right Ted?

once filled the "What??" void with Yaya, I generally agree.

I find myself mildly stunned at the original post from one of my fave posters and sensible pundit, tbf.

I'd probably go more 4-3-3 0r 4-3-2-1 ish with that but that kind of idea yeah. You could argue Pigfucker instead of Silva for a more solid team or Rooney for a more attacking team etc, there are lots of tweaks you could make but I'd be happier with that as a team than the alternative.

Every time he attacked against Madrid he would leave a huge space on the right for Madrid to take advantage of. Not good enough defensively for me.

Even more revealing is scan that chart and look for the weakest players in each position and see how many turn up in you know who's list. Close call for all but one or two.
( i couldn't include Milan in that as I dont watch them )

Even though this season he is not evn the best CB at Man City?

-------------------------------Hart----------------------------

-----Kompany---------------Puyol--------------------Ramos

-Schweinsteiger ------Toure-----Fabregas-----------Tranny

-----------------------------Rooney-----------------------------

------------------------Aguero---Messi-------------------------

No need for 4 in defence, the opposition would never have the ball - and aside from Puyol, that side could play together for another 6/7 years in its prime.

***plaaying devils advocate in the post above, I know Vinny is a better cb than joleen on his day

Clichy isn't premium defender but he is miles better than Lahm in DEFENDING. Lahm is obviously better going forward and I suppose that's the most important feature when you are playing in a league where you are never under pressure. Which is not the case with City.

Thiago Silva and Pique there over Kompany is laughable. Silva would crack that team when fully fit.

lmao.

Ambrosini is a lion - why does nobody else rate him?

basically, a Charlie Adam dressed in Armani suit. plenty of them around: was just arguing of him included in a premium starting XI.

cheers, JC

I'd take Valencia. Ferdinand & Scholes tho... laughable!
