Roy Hodgson begins talks with FA over England manager's job
West Brom have granted permission for the Football Association to speak to Roy Hodgson about the vacant England manager's position.

Hodgson, 64, has already spoken with FA chairman David Bernstein about replacing Fabio Capello.

Bernstein said: "Roy is the only manager we have approached and we remain on course to make an appointment within the timescale we set out.

"Further conversations will now take place with Roy."

Everything about this news reeks of class, professionalism and careful planning. Bernstein and the FA have waited until WBA's season is effectively over but have left enough time for their man to formulate proper plans for the Euros. Of course things could still not work out, but this is miles better than the Mark Palios/Brian Barwick days which gave rise to Mike Bassett.

He might play players in the correct positions. He might just do that. England may become a team with purpose. still not good enough to win, but might just do themselves justice.

He has a wealth of international experience as well, so its a sound move

It may cause a backlash though and his media cronies, who were certain 'Arry was getting it, may decide to turn on Hodgson, even before he gets in the seat.

Good (apart from Ashley Cole who we could still do with).

I bet all those scouse players who put the boot in when he got sacked are feeling a bit sick now.

If he gets the job, I hope the press don't fuck him over before he even starts.....

He'll deal with it after the shit he got at Inter and Bindipperpool. He's a thick-skinned old lizard. I'm sure if you looked like Maggie Thatcher's Spitting Image doll you'd get used to receiving abuse.

Pleased with this. Really good move.

He's the right man.

I hope he gets a fair crack of the whip from the press who will be somewhat miffed that they were wrong about Redknapp all along.
