Typical City

Was thinking about this today. Other than the keep ball in the last five minutes against Liverpool in 96, do (did) we have am unfair reputation for Cups for Cockups? Ok, we've had a load of managers over the last twenty years but United and Arsenal apart, who hasn't? I really can't think of any other major 'typical' City moments. Am I being too generous to our recent past?

I was stood in the crowd when fowler stepped up to take the peno that would put us in europe after an unreal run up the table from 13th.

And he missed.

From replacing Tony Book after we finished 2nd in the League through to the Sheikh taking over was pretty much one long fucking cock up with only the odd respite (the 5-1, the play off final, KK's division one championship, Kinky's goals) as far as I'm concerned. Was nothing new of course, if you go back further we were the only reigning champions ever to be relegated and that happened in spite of being the top scorers.

To many to mention, jamie pollock comedy own goal v QPR when we needed to win to stay up. Avoid defeat åt home to luton to stay up. How many more do you need

Somehow losing to boro(?) when they didn't even have a shot in the game

Losing to Sheffield utd after the ball got deflected by a sky blue balloon in the lead up to the goal

There's been a few.

Benjani falling asleep at the airport.

Beanie as assistant coach.

Too early in the day for me, but there's plenty.

Wasn't that Bolton - and we hit the woodwork about 8 times before they got a last minute penalty?

Mind you that could be a completely separate game!

For a stuffed toy, Beanie had a decent record.

No, but we should have given him a couple of seasons to get the players he wanted. He couldn't have been worse than Alan Ball

No, different game. Bolton game was at the reebok, dunne gave a penalty away in injury time. At least bolton therefore had a shot on target. We scored an og vs boro, they didnt have another shot in the game

did it not happen against wba aswell in a match?dunne back pass to james who miss kicked it and it went in, could of been a 1-1 draw that despite wba having no shots on target.

There was a list floating around a while ago of all the cock ups we've done, it was pretty extensive and tbh a reason why i love been a city fan!

Buying steve Daley. Mad Mal's chequebook rampage. Halifax Town in the cup. Forest at home in the cup.
Tommy Hutch scoring for both sides at Wembley.

Was 2004 against west brom. Dunne scores an OG from 25 yds as james was also racing out of the area to get the ball. It bounces and dunne mishits it or rather it hits him from a long clearance and goes past james into the net. There wasnt even a need to panic as earnshaw wasnt close enough to cause him any trouble. West brom didnt muster a shot on or off target the whole game that night.

Bolton was a home game when they got a penno in injury time.
Boro was at home too. Not one shot then in the last minute a cross hit the back of Sun's heel and went in his own net. Incredible.

Malcom Allison did not buy Steve Daley. He didn't even know the deal had been completed until he returned to Maine Road and was informed by Tony Book. This myth was firmly nailed in public on Granada TV some years ago, with both Book and Swales face to face in a live debate. SWALES BOUGHT DALEY.
