In amongst all the celebrations we hope to have this weekend, I know I post this video amongst my friends every year - but it still doesn't get any less shocking, nor does it stop me reflecting for a minute that it could have happened to any of us who went watching any team back then.
27 years ago today....

Helps keep things in perspective
Terrible images and memories bought back by that.

That was awful to watch. Seen it loads of times, but it doesn't get easier to watch. What gets me are the supporters cheering and singing and dancing around while their stadium burns down. Truly awful.

awful, very hard to watch but well worth a sensible reminder at the same time.
Thanks, Spartacus, for bringing a moment for memory and reflection, which put all our excitement into a more sensible perspective.
I humbly endorse Your words of wisdom:

One of the many bits of football nostalgia I don't miss. How many people in the 80s went to watch the football and never went home? As much as I miss the atmosphere of a Maine Rd, I've never felt safer than in somewhere like the Etihad.
RIP to all those let down by the football authorities.

I was living in Glasgow at the time and 4 of us drove down to see City clinch promotion by humping Charlton 5-1, but as we drove back home the news came through on the radio about the fire and it really took the edge off our triumphant day out.
So very sad - RIP fellow football fans

One of my teachers was burnt in the fire and it's always been very relevant to me. RIP to all those that died.
