Anyone Else Feeling Precious?

I dunno..maybe I'm being stupid..but I'm feeling possessive of City at the moment

Yes I know we need new fans to grow..but as we slowly become a global force I genuinely don't like the thought of bandwagoners jumping on board..wearing our shirts..singing our songs

I've suffered watching City..I feel that the majority of us existing blues have earnt the right to this success..yet now some Johnny come lately is going to jump in and steal your woman

Do you get what I mean?

I understand but it's part of the deal I'm afraid pal I've suffered all my life too but successful teams get tourists and kids who's parents won't install a sense of loyalty in them.

I get some of it in that the bandwagon jumpers from Milton Keynes to Hobart who will jump on and off, like they do with any successful team, but thats what comes with the territory of success.

In order to satify Platini and Uefa's utterly bonkers FFP, the club is rightly committed to growing the brand as the Chairman stated in his interview on the OS today so an upshot of that is that our fanbase will naturally grow with the exposure of our success. As an example I'd bet we have quite a few new fans in Argentina these days, given we have 3 of their internationals in our team.

Consider this: any new fans that came along will never know the joy you experienced on Sunday.

It's only a problem if we attract an enormous number of humourless, arrogant hangers-on who want to lord our success over everyone else, and do not respect the club's rich history and where we've come from.

I just feel too emotionally fucked to be precious. That was such a ride at the end.....I'm struggling to know what to think.

I'm sort of the opposite of a lot of people though

I don't really mind additional fans in Asia or South America etc etc as they have no impact on me personally

What I'm not going to be able to stomach is a new generation of plastic British City fans

I said on bluemoon..I only ever wear my colours when on holiday and in years gone by if you saw another City top..generally it would be a Manc and you could have a good chat about times gone by

I'm just scared now that

A) I'm going to be seen as a bandwagoner when I wear my shirt

And

B) I'm gonna bump into some bloke in a City shirt that has fuck all knowledge about City!

There will be band wagon jumpers. Some will fall off when another team wins the league. Some will stay and become part of the club and bring there kids up as blues. People start supporting clubs for all sorts of reasons, if they genuinely take the club to their heart I couldn't give a fuck what the reason is. Come one, come all!

I want everyone in the world to know what an amazing club this is and hopefully Sunday went some way to showing that to an awful lot of people.

THIS ^^

I get what you mean about wearing the shirt and people might think your jumping on the band wagon when City are actually deep in your heart!. On one count your lucky though Beeks, you live in or around Manchester and I am sure you are seen all over in your shirt. Now I live in a small country village, only been here five years and I don't wear football shirts cause I just look very odd in any kind of sporting attire, let alone a shirt!. I do, on cooler days wear my scarf though usually match days, it's an original that was bought at my first ever game 25 years or so ago! I have had the comments you are on about especially when I have been the only City fan watching the game in the pub and I hate it! Having to explain your loyaly and deep LOVE of the club and seeing them through thick and (a bit more) thin, like you have to justify can get annoying to say the least!

I am afraid though that's the way it's going to be!

Know what you mean - my daughter claimed she'd been waiting 10 years for us to win it, the bloody glory hunter.

You know you're not and the people who know you know you're not.

The opinions of others is irrelevant, just as the opinions of united's bandwagon jumpers have been irrelevant for decades.

I know the feeling of being the only Blue watching the match in the pub. However, here in Honley, I know of at least four Blues. And Me, Stupot and Karen did manage to empty the pub of rags on 6-1 day.
They don't like it up 'em.

You have to taste defeat to truly enjoy victory. We've all had our fill of failure and no set of fans deserve this more. The bandwagonners will never experience the joy we felt on Sunday.

It's inevitable of course & the club is desperate for it to happen, so we have to take it.

What is more important to me is that the hard core of genuine City fans don't turn into wankers, like those lot, because then the new glory hunting fans will adopt the same attitude & we will have an army of wankers. If that happens, I'm off to support FCMC.

The future of this club is still in our hands. If we behave with decency and humility & accept that disappointment is part of football & we have no divine right to win every year, then we are effectively establishing a code of conduct for our fans. Sure we can do a bit of gloating and a bit of whinging but as we all know; they take it to another level. If we start to be billy big bollox then we will actually attract the kind of people we despise; that's how they developed . Let the wankers wear red whilst we attract the ones with a brain & a sense of humour.

We have been victims of jealousy and that will grow but when it came down to it, everyone wanted City to win. Utd are hated because they area bunch of fucking wankers, not because they win.

Treating opposing teams & fans with respect (when it's deserved of course) & continuing to have the kind of banter we always have, is crucial to this club. Never forget where we came from & teach it to the newbies.

Don't ever let this club become infested with rags in blue or I'll end up hating City, never mind the neutrals.

I have to say that there are certain things i just can't tolerate, and i hope my fellow blues are on board with this.

I see various of my rag friends "liking" posts on fb by self proclaimed rag "fan pages" which are so fucking puerile they are embarrassing. Yesterday there was one "like = 10 smacks on tevez tits" - what the fucking fuck is all that about. The general respinse to this is a million and one asians and africans, plus many english who really should know better writing ridiculous comments usually ending GGMU. I have not yet found a genuine united fan who has ever said "go go man united".

If you have a look on the main city fb any time the club posts something, it is the same. Fucking muppets from around the world invading every post by the club with a completely out of context comment simply saying "aguero" or "city the best"- WHY?

Look, i would love the club to get bigger, but im already fed up with some of the fuckwits that for any number of reasons have attached themselves to my club, people like northern hope and palus for example. I dont want them, we dont need them, and neither do the club. Just fuck off back supporting united you trolls.

If you want to follow manchester city thats fine, first things first though, respect and embrace the humble traditions of the club.....dont fucking embarrass us. If you want to join us, thats fine, but learn about us, and learn about how we roll - dont come masquerading as a fan when your not, or you will get found out and abused just as much as a rag.

Palus is supporting City. The other guy is a knob.

You have to remember that most of the world doesn't speak English & many are uneducated or young children, so simple & silly comments on the net will always happen & the bigger the exposure, the more comments.

What we don't want are blokes from Essex in City tops telling Gillingham fans they have no history.

I do not have a problem with anybody supporting City. the important thing for me is that I support city and i know why they are my team.

How dare you all decide who should and who should not support City. You are all followers , not leaders so shut up and wallow in our success!

If you want wankers to support City that's up to you but the rest of us get to choose what we feel about it as individuals & collectively. Personally I hope many feel as I do but that's their decision, not yours.

Palus supports City because he was called out over his myopic support of Dzeko. At least Northern hope stuck to his guns.

I don't do it now, and probably won't bother as you can't stop the tide, but I would love to point recent additions to the family to a source where they can truly learn about the club and its culture, and then they may understand more. Perhaps the club should consider expanding the work they did under thaksin and having foreign language content on facebook and the os?

I think we are going to get millions of knob ends whatever we do & have to put up with it, but so long as the long term fans behave in the right way, it will still keep the soul of the club alive.

Utd's hard core & club officials behave like arrogant wankers & that sets the tone.

For example: what other northern team would still be singing songs about an ex Arsenal player who had the gall to compete with them in a different era ?

will ever be possible, even just even to consider, that there might be some "not breed & born" fans, grounded, sound and humorous as most of the Pure?
just saying...
