Imo you saw the potential problem we have with Lescott when he got outpaced by that shit QPR geezer on Sunday & Vinny when he got skinned by their fullback. Both are great defenders but not very quick. Thiago Silva would give the option of a bit more pace & better on the ball. Against teams like Napoli who parked the bus and hit us on the break with pace, we were lucky not to concede more goals.

The way Bob coaches the whole squad to be interchangeable, I think we should be able to rotate 3 CB's if all are quality.

Having said that, the only way I see us getting Silva is if we swap Tevez. The money they are rumoured to be asking is ridiculous.

Lescott headed it backwards and vinny was stood still and turned to make ground on him?

Nah that goal was just a pile of shite all round; Lescott did a diabolical savic impersonation but would have got away with it if Vinny hadn't done a Gary Neville previously & stepped back to play him onside from the pass.

For the 2nd goal, Vinny was so far outpaced on the wing that he couldn't even get close enough to their fullback to kick him. It was like watching Peter Barnes v Jimmy Nichol. Later, Jay Boothroyd skinned Lescott for pace on the other flank.

We don't usually get in those situations but we had some moments like that v Napoli & a player like Thiago Silva would be a good defence against it in the Chump's Lg, with his extra yard of pace.

Decent defender but vastly over priced and Milan will no doubt be a bunch of cunts to deal with.

Subotic for me. Already a top defender and four years younger than Silva at 24.

Whatever happens we do need a top class centre half. Kolo will be off, Savic needs to be loaned out and we can't afford to leave ourselves as exposed as we were last Jan/Feb.

To be fair to Vinny, Traore had a running start on
him at full pace - I don't know of any defender, even Clichy or Thiago Silva, that could have stopped him without taking a yellow card for it. That was Vinny's mistake - he should have body checked Traore and taken a yellow for the team. Made it an exciting finish though - one that, looking back on now, I wouldn't swap for any other

You are right on both counts with the mistake for the first and these mistakes happen. I'll give them that one as I don't think Vince quite trusted Joleon as he was back-tracking which put Lescott under more pressure, especially when he could see Cisse running on.

The second was quite simply a matter of our FBs pushing on leaving the slower CBs against a bit of pace, with a head start I have to say.

Overall though, I think Vince and Joleon have become one of the best CB pairings I've seen in modern day football. They've proved over the course of 2 seasons, with Joe Hart, that they've got what it takes and the stats go to prove it. It doesn't mean we sit still though, there's always room for improvement and if someone can improve our squad then I'm sure we're all up for that.

Two Silva's though?

He couldn't get close enough to kick him, that's what I mean.

Thiago will be pretty expensive I think. Anyone think Chielini from Inter is worth a look?

People seem to forget completely whatkind of history Lescott has with knee injuries. Unfortunately those never fully go away. We can't put ourselves in situation where injury to one player would completely mess our season.

Also, there will be injuries, suspensions and loss of form as always. We will be challenging on four fronts. There could easily be over 60 games next season. Asking anyone but Hart maybe to start all of them would be stupid and irresponsible.

I'm not sure about Silva. He offers great movement and is fantastic on the ball but seems weak in the air. I'm not sure how he'd cope in league. Would be brilliant addition for CL though.

I really hope we can land Silva. I have always enjoyed watching him play, and think he would be great for our team. If we can keep Kolo and land Silva to have four CB's (five with Rekik) that would be fantastic. If Kolo leaves, then I think we will need two CB's in the window.

The problem is I have no idea who else. I really can't see Subotic leaving for some reason, and if we land Thiago Silva we should probably go for someone much younger...
