... that either Portugal or Netherlands won't make it to the quarters?

(Assuming that Germany get at least a point against Denmark.)

Ha ha ha, nice work my friend but you were probably right in the first place.

They could both beat Denmark and draw against each other but it would mean the score at Germany v Denmark would take one of them out.

Yeah I get that. But if Germany get a point against Denmark then Portugal can only overtake them if they beat both Denmark and Netherlands. If they do, then Netherlands can't qualify.

What I mean is.... Is there any mathematical scenario whatsoever whereby both NL and PTGL can both qualify? I don' think there is.

Mate I can't deal with these round-robin ramifications. The mind boggles.

You are right. I've quantified above.

Of course. I see it all clearly now. So Portugal are slightly better placed for the head-to-head scenario then, as one if them will likely have to pip the Danes to 2nd. The Dutch really have fucked up. Can't throw away the first game in the group of death.

Dutch beat Germany by 2 goals, Portugal beat Danes by 2 goals, other 2 games drawn.

Nice to see The Red and Whites (got that from Wikipedia) get the upset. Would hate to see Portugal
out so soon, though. They have really improve their play as of late.
