I make an early nomination for Portugal. Nani the Fanny AND Christine in the same side? Wow.

It's a serious problem and all teams seem to indulge in play acting. One of the worst teams I saw for it were Groclin and let's not forget Klinnsman was one of the first celebrity divers. Hell, Gerrard, Rooney and Joe Cole have all been shocking blatant cheats, but it seems the Portuguese have cheating hard wired into their d.n.a.

watching Meireles roll around like Nigel had tried choking him out was ridiculous. Then the cheating cunts demanded the Dutch kick it out and then nearly went down and scored! Portugeezers defined in one 30 second snippet imho.

I think they have a school there that practices them this cheating tactics, otherwise i can't explain it.

Remember the four games with Sporting and Porto. Half of them, they were down.

One of the reasons i hate the Portuguese, they are all the same.

Sporting did it to us in the uefa cup this season, even the keeper lay down at one stage towards the end, they did it horribly to Celtic in the uefa cup final a few years ago.

Anyone watch Portuguese football?do they do it to each other league matches if they are winning one nil with 5mins to go?

Yes and yes.

It's all about mind set. Whereas most northern Europeans, Germans and Brits feel that diving is cheating and will go even as far as moan about their own players doing it, most people in Italy and Portugal feel that it just shows you are clever to win free kicks and penalties with a cheeky dive. I don't think they see anything fundamentally wrong with diving.

True, I remember the first time I was inter railing in the mid eighties and realised that queuing did not exist in southern European countries, I was appalled, still am to be fair but you are right NQDP it's a mindset and they honestly see it as part of the game.

You have named a few England players yourself so I think the argument that the Portugese are the worst is somewhat debateable and,now Young could be added to the list.

I added the English players names quite deliberately to illustrate the point that it is a universal problem that we can't just put down to 'cheating Johnny Foreigner'. And I'm glad it is debatable, because that is what the whole point of the thread was. . . . .to debate it!

Croatia have to be one of the worst offenders Srna is a cheat. They break up play with Dives.

When a team contains Gerrard and Young, not sure we can point any fingers, but still haven't forgiven the Italian team for the disgraceful way they knocked Australia out in 2006, so them.

I think the English try it as much as any team.But just like everything else,they are not the best at it.
