Manchester City Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment to the Board of Directors of Alberto Galassi, Chief Executive Officer of Piaggio Aero Industries.

Mr Galassi, who previously served on the Executive Committee of Piaggio Aero as Board Member responsible for Marketing and Sales, is attorney at law specialised in International commerce and arbitration. He has been a member of the Bar since 1996.

He joins Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak and fellow board members, Simon Pearce, Martin Edelman, Mohamed Al Mazrouei and John MacBeath as non-executive director with immediate effect.

Anybody heard of this chap, or know what his role will be ?

piaggio aero still has headquarters in genoa, my hometown. one of the few industries which hasnt left yet.
the stakes are controlled by Mubadala Development, since 5-6 years ago, later joined in the partnership by Tata
this gentleman enjoys a solid reputation and he's certainly a Khaldoon's man
he has played a crucial role in the company's re-launch and subsequent international success of Piaggio Aero's P180 aircraft, engine repair and overhaul business and its aero engines production.
he has been one of the main promoters of the company's international strategic partnerships and has been the main influence behind the inclusion of the shareholders Mubadala Development Co. and later Tata Ltd.

He's a Non-xec (NED) so won't be involved in the day to day stuff but will just sit on the board I would have thought?

Sales/marketing/arbitration/Links with India...the lad brings a lot

If you read about his background,he has no history within the sports "industry" ( we have the fella brought in from Derby for that ).
This would gives relevance to him being brought to take on Platini. Uefa won't stand a chance if it the FFP goes into a legal battle. When all said and done Uefa although powerful, are a sports organisation. We have the backing of The Abu Dhabi Royal Family and all the resources & business acumen that goes with it. Maybe Aberto Galassi has been brought in due to to his experience of law specifically within the European legal system.
Hopefully he has been brought into achieve a similar type of ruling as the Bosman, freedom of trade as opposed to freedom of movement for workers within in the EU.
Anyway, we have a plan!!!!!

That's a big leap.
His full time job is CEO of an aviation company part owned by the Abu Dhabi government. He won't have a lot of time for us.
He is also more associated with "international marketing" even though he's a trained lawyer.

Reading between the lines it seems he will be involved with shaping strategy, maybe even compliance.
