Mancini in transfer talks
28 July 2012

Roberto Mancini claims that Manchester City are talking to transfer targets and hope to have concluded deals within the next two weeks.

The Premier League champions are yet to make a signing this off-season, in stark contrast to their lavish spending over the last two years which has seen them lift the FA Cup and end their long wait for a top-flight league title.

Arsenal's contract rebel Robin van Persie has been continually linked with a move from the Emirates to Eastlands, following in the footsteps of former Gunners Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy, Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor.

City manager Mancini refuses to be drawn on names but the Italian has revealed he is working on bringing some new faces to the club.

"We did well last year. This year will be harder because when you win, the problem is to win again," he told Sky Sports.

"For this reason I think that we need to improve our team with maybe some new players.

"I'm sure that maybe in the next two weeks we can do something about new players.

"We are talking to some players, but the market is not easy. It's difficult, and for this reason we need more time."

The 47-year-old added that he is not expecting to add extensively to his squad.

"I don't know at this moment," he said when quizzed about the amount of signings he may make.

"But we have a lot of players and I don't think that we need 10 new players."

did a double take at that last line !

I think priority is a winger & a centre back - new contract for de jong as well
IF - IF we get RVP we need to sell Dzeko - so long as we don't lose moneys

just the first part.....decent centre half, have Savic murdered so we can write off his contract...and an attacking midfielder out wide with pace.

imo we need a "silva backup" but if we get a quality wideman we can use Nasri as a quasi-Silva with Yaya alongside and the wide ball as the out.

Two players we absolutely need.

As you say, RvP gives us a nice option but also a problem in terms of who to unload, to whom, how and on what terms

Pace in the final third, and some width. Therefore a decent pacy winger, who can also cross a ball.

Another need is for a class centre half to back up Kompany and Lescott, behind those 2 there is a huge drop-off in quality so we are one injury away from a major problem there. Another central midfielder to help in Ya Ya's absence, and potentially cover the loss of De Jong - maybe Javi Martinez ticks both of the boxes here.

Keep the 4 strikers we have, bin the idea of RVP, job done.

I hope Savic stays at City quite simply to annoy those who write the sort of shit above about him - he's a human being FFS and if you are going to write this sort of stuff whether it's tongue in cheek or not, it's still unecessarily OTT.

So I'm bakcing him all the way - reminds me of the way people treated Richard Edghill, seeminly we just don't learn

For a winger - how about the Uruguayan Ramirez who Liverpool are interested in ? Anyone know if he's quick/any good ?

agree with comments above a centre back and winger is needed. Lets not write savic of hes a young lad and a lot of people wrote julian off! lets give savic another season or two he could be one for the future

What's definitely needed is a thread where people can say what positions need filling during this transfer window. We don't have one of those already.

Maybe we should have a poll!

Gaston Ramirez I believe you're talking about? City were rumoured to be interested early in the Summer and I was quite disappointed when nothing came of this. Seems to have bags of ability, tricky without faffing about too much and great vision, kind of like Silva. He has been fairly well known for a couple of seasons now, it's a wonder someone hasn't come in for him before now.

So yr on record as being opposed to him literally being murdered? Is that correct?

Interesting.

It will be RVP or Dan the Man.
I would rather have the second one. I don't think we will buy three players so we will have just a striker or a midfielder so that winger or defender will have to wait until next year, or maybe this winter(if things aren't going ok).

I'm getting concerned that we don't seem to have anyone on the radar apart from Rvp and personally I think we don't need him, we don't seem to want anyone else and I think we need someone, I no people have said all this but I'm getting worried that we dont seem interested in getting anyone, and theres only like 3 weeks till the start off the season! Who can anyone see us actually getting?

I'd rather they weren't on the radar as it probably improves our chances of getting them at a decent price & not alerting Real / Barca to whom we are after. Plus we are after a very select group of players, ones who will make us better (Messi et al) and those who'll provide cover, with the latter being harder to attract if they are getting regular games at their current club no matter how much cash we throw at them.

Savic has got some game time already pre-season. That would suggest to me that Mancini is still trying to bring him along (hopefully for the mid/long term) Not good news for the wicked wicked Savic spankers. It would be funny though, if he did indeed come good, and all those wicked ones would have to spank themselves / eachother ;)

If he was "bringing anyone along" it was the likes of Razak, Rekik, Suarez and now Biton. Savic is a senior player bought for a significant amount, With that comes a certain level of expectation which he has never reached in a team that should make it easy for him to raise his game, he hasn't. Stop defending mediocrity like we're the fucking bad guys here.

I'd love for Savic to come good. I can happy clap with the best of them on here but let's face it. He has always stuck out like a sore thumb with his lack of quality.

I'd rather Dedryk get the game time then Stefan.
