England v Italy and Other Internationals

Just looking at the squad for Wednesday and noticed both teams are missing their 'Old and Bold'. The likes of Terry and Lescott were left out only for Lescott, who didn't play on Sunday, to have a late call-up.

England squad for Italy friendly:

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Birmingham City), John Ruddy (Norwich City).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Tottenham), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City).

Midfielders: Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Jake Livermore (Tottenham), James Milner (Manchester City), Jack Rodwell (Manchester City), Ashley Young (Manchester United).

Forwards: Andy Carroll (Liverpool), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

A very young squad for Hodgson, is he now trying to ensure a change occurs in the England International set-up?

Oh, Rodwell and AJ in, Mario out.

This has happened for the last few seasons, its the most awfully timed waste of resources EVER.

Whoever arranges these things needs their head checking.

It's FIFA mate, we have no say in the matter. I just wonder if Mancini had a chat with his mate Hodgson to ensure Lescott got another pre-season in?

I don't think it will be played with any vigour. All players will want to be fresh for the start of the season and Hodgson will know not to push the players to much. I imagine he will use it to try out the young players for the upcoming qualification matches.

Keep your eyes on that Italian Keeper's hair - from a certain camera every time he goes in front of the black digital advertising hoarding graphics are transmitted onto his barnet.

Shocking defendinf for the england goal. There should always be someone on the back post. Johnson's having a lively game so far

Did Butland learn that from Joe Hart?

A few dirty challenges from Italy, although that last one on Young was alright.

So was I the only one seeing strange things when they got near one of the hoardings then? Maybe my aerial or TV is knackered.

My eyes had gone too then realised that they are normal hoardings on the outside by way of the replays. Obviously someone's paid ITV to do an overlay and it's turned out like an '80s Boney M video.

Aguero has been great in the Argie game since he came on.
