Marwood

If this report is true the Marwood out gang may just be getting there wish.... just not quite yet...
Frank Arnesen could be in line for a shock return to the Premier League after being approached by Manchester City to become the club's director of football.
The English champions have targeted the former Chelsea backroom man as they seek to rebuild the club's recruitment and scouting operation.
Arnesen, who is currently the sporting director at Hamburg, is believed to be interested in the role, which could
have repercussions for Brian Marwood, the most senior football administrator currently at the club.
Goal.com understands that an appointment is not imminent but there have been discussions between Arnesen and City about him joining the club next year.
The 55-year-old Dane is said to be frustrated at the budget available to him at the Bundesliga side, where he has recruited mainly emerging players, including four from former side Chelsea and another on loan.
City appear to be paving the way for Arnesen's arrival. His son, Sebastian, left Hamburg's scouting team last month to take up a similar role at Etihad Stadium, where he was joined by Jan Ricka, who he had worked with at the Bundesliga club.
The Premier League holders' pursuit of Arnesen may explain why manager Roberto Mancini has spoken about Marwood with barely concealed contempt in recent weeks.
Mancini has been agitated by the lack of top signings this summer and has a strained working relationship with Marwood, with the pair frequently at odds over how to refurbish the playing squad while satisfying the requirements of Uefa's financial fair play regulations.
"I am not the sporting director, it is his [Marwood's] job, not my job," said the Italian boss, speaking last Friday before the £15 million capture of Jack Rodwell from Everton. "They ask me about the market but I don't know anything, it is better they talk to him."
Marwood, who carries the exotic title director of football administration but is effectively the director of football, has been vulnerable at Etihad Stadium since the departure of Garry Cook as chief executive last September, his close ally from their Nike days.
His role is mainly centred on opening dialogue with other clubs over potential targets rather than cherry-picking players or finalising deals.
Arnesen left Stamford Bridge at the end of 2010-11 season following six years at Chelsea, where he had several roles in that period, including controlling player recruitment and the development of young players in the academy.
Chelsea paid Tottenham £5m for Arnesen to join them in June 2005 after a 12-month spell at White Hart Lane.
The former midfielder made his name in the specialist role during 10 years as director of football at PSV Eindhoven beginning in 1994 after abandoning aspirations to become a manager.

Just a thought.

As I've said, I trust Khaldoon to get this right. IF Marwood really is falling short then they will bring someone in, I have no doubt.

What has Marwood done to deserve this?

Khaldoun is around at the moment so we should see things start to move, ins/outs and house cleaning. In Khaldoun we trust.

In all fairness to goal.com they have employed some solid Journos in the past year, I think the lad from the BBC is running the site now so it is a bit more reputable than it was.
This said it is still far from a stonewall source. Interesting none the less.

I have no idea! Hence the word if underlined and in capitals. Ask Khaldoon, it is his decision and as I say I trust him to make it as he knows the reality, of the situation, way better than some internet posting fan in Cairo, Genoa, Orlando, Bangkok, Helsinki or even Middleton.

Apparently Arnesen has already downplayed the hype ...
This from Sky Sports:
Arnesen cools City talk
Dane has not yet been contacted by Premier League champions
Former Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen has played down reports linking him with a return to the Premier League with Manchester City, insisting he is settled at Hamburg.
Speculation has surfaced City are looking to hire the 55-year-old Dane to rebuild the club's scouting department.
His son, Sebastian, is already part of the club's scouting team having joined earlier this summer.
But Arnesen, who has two years remaining on his contract in Hamburg, insists he has not yet heard from City and is committed to the Bundesliga club.
He told sporten.dk: "There is nothing in this story. I'm in Hamburg where I still have two years left on my deal.
"At the moment I'm in a meeting regarding new players for Hamburg so that is a no to those rumours.
"I haven't been contacted by Manchester City yet. I'm dedicated to this project with Hamburg."

I totally back Ted stance for the best available: that what drive my issue with the shoe salesman. Txiki Beguiristain would be the icing on the cake and fix almost the ultimate weakness of the Club. Unfortunately I doubt he is on the market.
Yet, the swap from a shoe salesman to someone who holds 18 years of solid experience on the position - may I dare to call Arnesen a senior sporting director? - featuring very solid introductions within Dutch and German football system (possibly 2 of the 3 major breeding grounds for young talent in Europe) will make the same difference than swapping me with Kate Upton for a shag.
fact.

Ex Barcelona chief exec. Ferrran Soriano keeps re-appearing for the role. First he is in, then Span-Air collapse and he's out, now it appears he's on the brink of signing a contract with city again.
I think names might just be pushed around at the moment until one is unveiled. Like our signings in a sense. Linked to everyone apart the actual one signing we make.

Surely marwood doesn't actually have any say on who we get and don't get though.
I thought it was basically Mancini gives a list of players/positions he is interested in to scouts and stuff. They watch the players and report back. Mancini decides which ones he is still interested in and then that list is handed over to marwood. Then marwood goes and tries doing the deal. When they have the go ahead and have a deal is worked out khaldoon gives the go ahead or pulls the plug depending on the price.
Am I wrong or does marwood have fuck all to do with who we go for and how much we pay?

Surely the Mancini-Marwood situation would be transfered to any new director of football. Mancini's problem is lack of full control over signings, any new director of football would get in the way of acquiring this power.

The point is none of us know who City had as a target
No manager will be truly happy unless he has 3 world class players in each position. But then he isnt the one that has to deal with trying to get rid of unhappy players who wont leave because they have been signed on a contract paying inordinate amounts of money.
Mancini will feel it isnt his problem but it is because its the club problem. The club would love to sell RSC, Ade, Bridge but they wont go and until we get rid of these deadweight players the board have to be mindful of FFP and wont go flashing the cash
City are also a different animal to the one 3 years ago we dont have to beg anyone to play for us so dont have to pay exorbitant transfer fees or wages. But players will be aware that signing for us they will have a hard time getting into our first team as we have quality young players whereas other teams have ageing squads
We seem to be basically looking for quality cover players
