Reports saying Bayern might not complete the deal. Question is, should Bobby swoop in? It would upset Bayern and the rags :)

Would rather we chase him than Luiz.

I doubt Martinez would be brought in as defender if we were after him. I think he is much better as midfielder and would be option plan b after De Rossi.

Martinez isn't the quickest so I'd rather him as a defensive midfielder but is there much of a point seeing as we just bought Rodwell? I'd rather try get De Jong to sign on and keep those two and Barry as our options with any available cash going into other positions.

Bobby's probably keen though.

de jong may be sold, barry is getting on in years and recovering from injury ... buying rodwell and another midfielder is not too much, especially if it's martinez, as both him and rodwell are young and can be molded to purpose. along with razak/suarez ... that is a good young core to focus on developing for the future. Rodwell/Martinez would be the more immediately playable and suarez/razak are more long term.

If not necessary this window, then probably necessary in the next, as De jong is either sold or doesn't sign a new deal and barry is that much older. (please don't take this to mean that I don't rate barry in our midfield, but he is slow and getting older, that is just a fact, so we need backup/youth to develop).

This worries me.

I was sold on this bloke until I started watching him closely & he has a lot of flaws. I can see why Bob may want him but imo what you've got with Martinez is a £6mil footballer ability wise who is going for £30 odd mil simply because he's 6ft 3 & people are hoping the two things combined will make for a great player in the future.

If he was 5ft 11, nobody would be remotely interested in him.

He can pass a ball quite well, is strong & has a decent football brain for getting moves going & reading the game etc. He can play that long punt up the pitch which VK insists on attempting each game only to hoof it to the oppo keeper. Martinez could feed Balotelli with that & hit it right. But he doesn't appear to have much pace & not much of an engine & gets caught in possession sometimes in his own half. But he's 6ft 3, so he costs £30 odd million quid.

I can see him in a back 3, or stood in front of the defence, but if we started him as one of two cbs, I'd be worried shitless.

Plus he hasn't had a decent game since round about the time Bilbao played the rags, where he did some decent stuff & some poor stuff.

But in the end, he's a fucking big unit to stick in the midfield/defence, & that's what people are paying for.

Mancini says the price is too high.

Yet he has no say on transfers.

Strange.

He also says 'could be' on Sinclair & sounds optimistic about us getting our other targets, whoever they may be.

I wonder is there any suprises coming in the next week?

One that blows us away would be nice but we'll see.

It sounds like we're battling for martinez until the end, judging by that interview.

Also, I think we could well see dzeko out and cavani in. Or at least I think that is what mancini is hoping for.

I thought Marwood was just signing people whether he wanted them or not & he didn't know anything, or have anything to do with it.

Interesting comments today, as he's said AJ can go when we have a replacement, as otherwise it would weaken the squad, he's 'sure we can do what we want' this week but he's not saying how many, DeJong is staying BUT when asked if there were any bids for Dzeko, he said 'not at the moment'. No 'he's staying' endorsement or 'not for sale' that I've read.

Gives me the impression we are in for an attacker & that Edin may go. Jovetic perhaps ?

Then again it could just be Bob doing his drunk Grandad act.

After last year, do you still believe a word Mancini says to the press? He pulls the 'I no speaka da Engleeeesh' then takes them on a journey which completely confuses them. I'm not even convinced he's Italian anymore.

His public facade is a complete lie to confuse everyone whilst he goes about winning stuff without them noticing - the BBC still seem to think the rags won the league last year with Shrek's overhead kick.

As long as he says ezzzzzz normal, I am convinced. Got Mancio saying it now, must be an Italian thing.

He is a bit of a puppet master with them, turning their own words against them last season was brilliant and it worked.

I am glad to concede You have 3/4 of a point, over me only, on that. since I listened to the presser, particularly the "we have been looking at him since..." bit. that relaxed my concerns a deal, particularly when combined with Khaldoon's appointment of Soriano (difficult to argue on which pair talk the same football, out of Soriano/Mancini - Soriano/"Chairman's non-playing management team").

yet, the MAIN concern, which NQDP refers to, is and always has been, the capability to revert the Mancini say, as agreed with /revised and sanctioned by HRH and Chairman at usual post season summit in AD, into professional action and acheivement.

Then, when discussing of the void of a professional and senior SD, we also have the issue of developing the City influence towards other Clubs, but this exceed the relevance with what marked by NQDP.

His parents met with Bilbao's president Josu Urrutia this week, to convince him to accept 40 million from Bayern. Apparantly his dad is a hardcore Bayern fan.

But it seems the president doesn't want to accept it.
