THIS. If we had Falcao we would score about 10 a game :)

I think Barcelona had a coversion rate of about twenty percent when they won the league in 2011

I keep saying that this is still the issue that Mancini has not sorted yet.
neither the Title's boost of confidence seems to have helped.

need a huge improve if we want to go places in Europe.

20% of 40 chances is better than 50% of 2 though

To be fair, we are missing our two best finishers.

Aguero....and Johnson? de Jong? I would easily say Tevez is on par with Aguero, I can only assume you are talking about Balotelli...and wrong, just wrong.

I'll start worrying when we stop scoring less than 3 goals a game... Yes, we're guilty of missing chances, but I've no doubt that'll sort itself out sooner rather than later. Manchini and Co. should be more concerned about our defence I would have thought.

Likewise, I'll stop worrying when we keep a clean sheet.

Other than stranding joe by failing to track his runner 6 yards that allowed a tap in. Very poor and nearly cost us.

Say what?

Statistically Balotelli was the best finisher at the club last season, even better than Aguero.

What stat are we looking at? Minutes per goal? Because that puts Dzeko ahead of Aguero as well.

Shot conversion says Aguero was second in the league behind Shrek.

Not that I don't see the merit of Your point, cause I do.
Problem is that, particularly in Europe, You don't always get grasslands to be ridden as You often do in the English game, either because of the open game or because of tactically inept attempts to park the bus in a non effective way.
The way I see it is that, despite the indisputable class, skill and commitment of our attacking midfielders and 4 top strikers (which, yet again, I wouldn't swap with none), chance conversion is a matter of feelings, focus, experience, self-believe all combined in a very difficult mix, just impossible to train. Probably because our forwarders are still relatively young and almost new to the rarefied air of these top challanges (PL title defence and CL groups of death), this has been a constant, unsolved issue ever since we get started for deploying attacking football.

On the other hand, while the current poor defensive face output is there for everyone to see, I am not over-concerned about it. Just because, as opposite to the killer instinct in front of the goal, a proper defensive set up had just been imposed, trained, experienced and digested by our excellent defenders and that is something that You don't forget, like once You learn to swim or ride a bike. It'll just take a little of extra training and game time to have match fitness back and our defensive line will be back to their standards.

The shot conversion table on the right is misleading. It includes only the 10 most frequent shooters & ranks them accordingly. Take a look at the graph on the left.

Balotelli - conversion rate of 23.64%
Aguero - conversion rate of 22.12%
Dzeko - conversion rate of 19.72%
Tevez doesn't seem to be among the top 100 shooters thanks to his Golf trip

And yes, Balotelli & Dzeko both have a better min/goal ratio than Aguero.

And if we delete the 3 penalties they both took? How does it look then?
