We signed Richard Dunne, one of my all time favourites, easily makes my top 20. Never forget what he did.

City legend for me and my all time favorite City player. Wont get much credit around here now that we are spoiled.

12 years ago not 10.Dunne is a city legend.The way he turned his career around was great.He really got his act together and became a model pro.4 time city player of the year cant see anyone repeating that.

One of the most overrated players we have had, an accident waiting to happen, and often did.

Thing with Dunne is that when we were shite he was great player for us. That doesn't make him great player though.
He produced some immense performances. But, it's not a surprise that none of the big teams were ever interested in him. he was so prone to costly errors and he also cost us so many times. When we moved on as a club, he had to be sold. but thanks for the memories Dunnie!

Based on that theory the likes of Andy Morrison fall into that category & yet his impact on the club was a major factor in seeing us promoted from out of the third tier - ergo he's a great player with a great influence, he wouldn't have been as good a player as Doherty/Swift/Bell etc but he was a great player for us as was Dunniniho

I always loved the dunnie, but I did lose a tiny bit of respect for him when he gave an interview saying thank god the club weren't buying defenders when we bought robinho.

He's still a legend in my eyes, but he knew he wasn't up for it and just wanted to hang on once we started moving up

There were no tears from me, I thought he was a good player.

Some Fans have short memories, Dunnie is rightly a legend of our club, god knows where we would have been without him. He was awesome season after season for us and his contribution to our club should not be underestimated. So glad he played for us.

I liked Dunnie but as with Morrison, he was great in the lower leagues where the club rightly sat at the time. He was slightly above average in the prem but in terms of the players we had/were used to at the time, actually immense ... bizzarely. No disrespect to the fella but the fact he won Fans POTY 4 times says more about how piss poor our playing staff were in general rather than how good he was. He's given me some great memories thou (bothh good and bad)

Absolute warrior, was a fave of mine.

Ahh. I guess I was a bit lost in translation here. I'll try again but I already see I'm bit lost for words. I kind of tried to say the same thing but my post came out maybe bit too negative.

What I tried to say was that when he played for us, he was brilliant. He raised the team to another level And played huge part in keeping us in the league too at times. The importance of all that can be seen by just looking at where we are now. Same goes for other past heroes who may not have been 'world class' but still were Huge players for us.

What I also tried to point out is that when the club wanted to become a top team, sadly Dunnie could not be part of that. He just wasn't good enough. Some fans here for example kept banging on for Ages that we should never have sold him. I disagree with that completely. Fantastic defender for a team who is safely in mid table or competing for the last euro place. (not to even mention teams in relegation battle) but in a team that has to get into Champions League... I'll leave it here

It's worth bearing in mind that he wanted to stay and fight for his place but wasn't given the opportunity. He knew exactly what he was up against, they were all players who'd been playing in England.

Hughes signed Toure, Lescott and Boyata. Dunne was out.

But it's also worth bearing in mind that Kompany was also sidelined. He didn't once start at centre half in Hughes last season when Lescott and Toure were in the squad, even Onuoha was ahead of him. One of the first things Mancini did was recognise that Kompany was a brilliant centre half and start picking him there (though he continued to use him in midfield when his need was greater).

Lescott has really come on in terms of comfort on the ball and distribution. Dunne was an important player for Villa, looking at it again from a fresh perspective, I don't think there was an inevitability about him leaving us. Maybe it would have still happened, but it was a shame that he never got the opportunity to win trophies with us (even on the bench) or fight for his place. Given the players we put out or put on the bench since he left and how much he cost, I think selling him might have been a really bad bit of business*.

As an aside, I noticed that Mancini used Garrido 12 times, including 8 of his 9 first games in charge (rested him against Scunthorpe). Bridge is off in the championship and still costing us money, Garrido is back in the prem (Norwich) and we made a profit on him.

Of course, Hughes

Gave us great service and I'll always remember him for that but as two people have said above...the POTY awards just highlight how poor the rest of the team was and he was always close to a disaster in big games..and sometimes an actual disaster.

I can understand why some think him a legend but he's a long way away from that IMO
