David Silva and the Spanish commentators

For a long time I've been wondering how come many Spaniards don't seem to think so much of our David. Although he was class during the European championship, he got a lot of schtick for his performances. During the last World Cup, del Bosque quickly sacrificed him in what seemed like a very arbitrary move after the draw against Switzerland. Today I watched the game on Liveonlinefooty with Spanish commentators, and my wife who knows Spanish said they constantly made remarks about him being from the Canary Islands, as opposed to the lack of remarks on Javi Garcia's region of birth.
So I guess what I'm wondering, and this question is directed to anyone who knows anything about Spain, is: could it be so simple that many Spanish people don't regard David Silva as properly Spanish and therefore is more critical towards him than against anyone born and raised in Iberian Spain?

Just shows they are as fucking useless as ours. Kind of reassuring really.

Rafa Nadal is from Majorque and from what I know from spanish people, nobody gives a fuck about where's from.
Maybe they talked about David like (at least here in France) people talked about Cavendish being from Isle of Man
If anything what's play against him

His mum is of Japanese descent, far be it from me to accuse the Spanish of racism...
