Stadium & Club Tour

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Stadium & Club Tour

Postby thegoatfeeder » Mon Sep 17, 2012 3:59 pm

Just a quick one really, i've been a member on here for ages, but don't post a huge amount, but just wanted to give the tour a mention. I work at City on the heritage team, and have done for just over a year, I have been involved in the revamped stadium and club tour (not taking much responsibility, I was only responsible for a tiny tiny bit) and I just wanted to give it a bit of a mention (i'm not doing this for financial incentive!). Not sure how many of you have had the opportunity to do it, or if you've done it in the past, but it is honestly really good and I just thought i'd give it a bit of a plug, I hope noone minds!

You can book it on the website, its £10 for adults and and £7 for concessions. On top of that is the legends tour, which is £120, but includes a lunch in the legends box, and the normal tour as lead by a club legend. It could be Mike Summerbee, Jeff Whitley, Paul Lake, the list goes on, on top of that you get a tour of Carrington with Chappy as well.

So yeah, I apologise for the plug, but everyone is really proud of it, and the Summer has been great in terms of visitor numbers and I just thought it deserved a mention on here. Also, as of today you can also get a glimpse of the ball Aguero scored with against QPR, as well as a legitimate Premier League winners medal:

sounds class & I shall definitely give it a go. Would the Legends tour be appropriate for kids?

Not so sure it would be to be honest, its £120 for adults and £100 for concessions, so a lot of money for kids etc. It's aimed at adults really to be honest, but the standard tour is fantastic for kids, loads of opportunities for pictures and you get to see some fascinating stuff.

My daughter bought me 2 tickets as a father's day present last year (making sure she got the half of the present back and I took her).

It was quite impressive and very enjoyable. I would think it's a must do City thing. My only criticism of it was the guide, who though a lovely bloke seemed to be limited in his knowledge of City stuff. Certainly not the expert who a visitor would expect.

My other gripe is that; despite what football "experts" may tell you, City have a long, successful and interesting heritage. At Maine Road, there were huge glass cabinets displaying some amazing trophies, cups and shields, City have won over our long history. Some fascinating stuff but at the Etihad, NOTHING is displayed.

Totally agree with you on the last bit, I work down in the store room where all this amazing stuff is kept, and me as well as my colleagues are doing our very best to get this stuff out and on display. With security it isn't always the easiest thing in the world, but it's something we're really really keen to get done, hopefully as time passes there will be ways to get more of it displayed.

Anyway I will stop trying to sell it now!

LAHAD,
Mate, there is far far more than a herd of porcelain cows down there. We have some amazing stuff. My favourite is one that stands about 3ft tall, solid silver and we got that in 1968 for beating Dunfermline?, Dumbarton? (or Dunshaggin) in a one-off game in the States.

Goatfeeder,
Please don't stop trying to sell this Mate. The tour is an integral link between the club and fans/visitors. It is much needed to combat the shite in the media. It just needs to be improved and worked on. It's as frustrating as hell when I meet overseas visitors who have done tours at the swamp and Etihad. We seem to be embarrassed about how good we are.

Please PM me with the name of whoever is the power behind this, I would love to constructively help improve this facet of our club.

Have sent a PM. Just to answer both of your points, there is certainly an awful lot of stuff held by the club, and they are actively trying to find ways to get it out there; I don't want to/can't say much more than that at this point.

Not even I got a free ticket and I helped with it! It's a tight ship that place, not that fans of other clubs would believe that.

If any of you have seen Inside City this week; the bit at the start where Maicon arrives at Carrington, the people stood round the door are actually on a legends tour, so you never know who might show up if you choose to do it.

I went on the new tour on the day of the home kit launch and I must say I was very impressed.

I took my 2 year old with me, but i wouldn't recommend it unless you have a child with a huge attention span.

For £10 it is really good value, just a shame that the trophy was on tour when i went, but i'm going again in December so all is well.

There was also a couple of rags with tea towels on that got some stick when they showed the 1-6 and THAT goal against QPR

Love the idea of that legends tour. Although i'm not buying into it until you get Kevin Horlock to do one.

Aggressively walking around the stadium with Horlock would be just awesome.

(Plus he is a very very funny guy, would no doubt be hilarious.)

I'll have to try it again , esp as my PC crashed and I lost all the photos. Tsk! Technology eh?
Last time I went was when we were proper skint. I think we had persuaded somebody shit to pay for / sponsor an electronic scoreboard (was it Timpsons?). The guy who conducted the tour was actually a rag and was gloating about it.
It'd be worth paying for a Legend tour to avoid that

The current tour guides definitely aren't reds, I am pretty certain of that!

They could have replicas made, and put the replicas on display. That stuff needs to be shown as a response to all this 'born in the 21st century' bollox. PS I hope the tour in 2014 onwards includes the swanky new campus etc.
