Aguero: I'd have joined Real Madrid before Man City
ESPN staff
September 19, 2012

Sergio Aguero admits he would have joined Real Madrid had they made an offer for him in 2011, claiming he had "no option but to join City".

Aguero, who was on the bench during Real's 3-2 Champions League win on Tuesday, became Manchester City's most expensive acquisition last summer when he made a £38 million move from Atletico Madrid.

At the time, reports claimed Aguero was against joining Atletico's fierce rivals out of respect, but the 24-year-old moved to correct those claims following City's heartbreaking loss at the Bernabeu.

"If Real Madrid had been interested in me, then I would be here," Aguero said. "I had no option but to join City.

"I want to take this opportunity to refute the information where I supposedly said that I would never play for Real Madrid because I played at Atletico. It was published in an English newspaper."

Aguero netted 23 goals for City last term, including the match-winning strike on the final day of the season which earned Roberto Mancini's men the Premier League title. The Argentina international says he is happy to stay in England having made the move from Spain.

"Right now, I'm playing for City and not thinking about anything else," said Aguero.

While probably true Aguero would have joined Real if it was a toss up between us and them, I highly question these quotes..

The article was published by "ESPN staff" so sounds as reputable as "Sportmail reporter".

Looks like troublemaking to me.

I read another version today where he actually said he "feels at home at city and he has no doubt he took the right option joining city".

Loosely translated to "I had no other option" if you're a rag or a rag loving journo.

from the guardian....

QUOTE OF THE DAY

"If Real Madrid had been interested, I'd be there. I'm at City because Madrid showed no real interest in me. Now I'm playing at City and think about nothing else. It's the best decision I could have taken" - After such an open, mature comment, somebody should really have a word with Sergio Aguero about how modern footballers are supposed to behave.

This pretty much sums up how things get blown out of proportion. If Real had gone in for him, of course he would have gone there, most players would, but the fact is, they didn't so he came to us. He goes to on to say he is happy, and it was the correct decision to come to City as opposed to wait on Real to make a bid, storm in a tea cup.

The question is why on earth he would need to say anything on this subject at all? He must know the press would pick up on it, so now we have a week with journos picking it up and shovelling shit in City's direction again, purley based on the quotes of one of our own players.

Totally needless. Yes I know the quotes are relatively obvious but why say anything and make a non-issue, into a stick the press can again throw at City.

No, i heard this articole before it was like this and Sergio said something like : "I would have joined Real, but only if Atletico would have wanted that. I know the At fans wouldn't had understood that, but it all dependend if Atletico would have wanted me out. I was happy playing for them".

But the rag who did the translation (or the Real fanboy who understood only what he wanted) really has no idea about the job of a news reporter.

It's just a sneaky spin on some positive words about him being happy at City.
