Is our squad stronger than last season?

Is our squad stronger than last season?

Postby bobby brows » Wed Sep 19, 2012 3:43 pm

Question in the title post:

We've seen all the new signings in action at least once now and I'm wondering what the view is on site?

Having written some pretty hefty preview's for this site has good by writing cap back on to ask the question on my revived blog. It's a hefty 3,400 words and the first thing I've written in a while outside of these previews so if anyone takes the time to read it any feedback is good.

Garcia is an improvement on de Jong.
Nastasic is an improvement on savic.
Dzeko is looking like a goal scorer again.
Rodwell hasn't done much wrong but is not good enough to be a starter in the big games.

Kompany has turned to shit.
Silva has been abit shit.
Nasri has been hit and miss.
Sinclair is shit.
Maicon is a downgrade from zaba and Micah (when Micah can be arsed being fit)

Overall the team don't seem to have a clue what they are doing, we don't have a set system. We are playing as 3 separate units (defence, midfield and attack) instead of working as a team.

So all in we are a far weaker team than last year and it is showing. Being champions was nice while it lasted though.

Sorry I should have been more clear. The opening points are valid but I'm discounting form and injures and basing this solely on our business in the transfer window

The squad is stronger, the team has yet to demonstrate that greater strength

Definitely stronger in terms of personel, but not quite performing at their peak yet. It'll come though, I have no fears what so ever.

That's what I thought and the answer is yes. Garcia is overall better than Nigel but boy do I wish Nigel had been playing last night.

Maicon is a good addition to the squad. Not sure yet about Sinclair v AJ so I will call that a draw, Nasti does look a better prospect than Savic. Our problem as a team so far is poor form and a defence that is all over the place.

Are you comparing Garcia and De Jong based on what you've seen in training? I'll admit i've been handicapped by watching the Stoke game from behind the goal but I can't honestly say i've noticed enough from the opening encounter to make an 'overall' judgement, i guess basically what I am asking si if the answer to the above question is no? what have you seen? lol

Not specifically from training but from what I have seen of Garcia before City ( not a massive amount though) and the record he has which obviously includes scoring goals. For me Nigel was the best in the premiership at the job he did which was 99% a defensive role.My guess is that Garcia might not be as good as Nigel in that aspect of the job but he can more than counter that with his linking of play better with the attack plus scoring a few goals plus his ability in the air defensively.

The other thing in Nigel's favour is how good he was on the training pitch and in the changing room. Although the first impressions of Garcia from what I see on the training pitch and from what I have heard re Garcia are very very good.

Yeah we are stronger but our signings should not have all been left to the last minute.

We should have all these guys with a proper preseason behind them.At least then they might have established a better feel for the players around them.

We have amazing players , why is not great well we must give it more time because new players are come late but there is some problem we all can see it but can put finger on it , why some players are underpreforming ?

Jesus Christ. Simplest explanations and all that. We are all over the fucking place. Mancini needs to get a grip. We look way below where we were, way below. But for Yaya being his amazing self we'd be throat cutting. Arsenal match is, in my opinion, absolutely pivotal.

without a shadow of doubt!
the whole team has an year of further togetherness under the belt, if nothing this have been the most evident positive at madrid. last season we would had been slaughtered under that pressure.
Team have been strenghtened in depth and quality.

Kompany and Silva Shite???

Imo we are far far stronger than last season apart from Bob, who at he moment is performing to a lower standard with his team selections & tactics. Last season he was much more focused from the off, possibly because of the early away game at Spurs & of course having the players together for more time pre season.

He will get his shit together soon & stop fannying about but perhaps not this weekend, as he likes to do bizarre shit v Wenger.

Hard to say. As Ashton said above, we looked like a divided team with midfielders, defenders and strikers going their own way.
As i said it before and will say it again, that 3-5-2 system really fucked us over. We had a great system of 4-2-3-1, that had grown almost to perfection in the last 2 years and by changing it again, Bobby took as at the level when 4-2-3-1 was at his start.
My problem is that i heard him say after the Stoke game, that he wants 3-5-2 in every game and that is a huge mistake.

His mistake was that he forgot all about 4-2-3-1 this summer, training only using 3-5-2 and then using this even in the first three games we had. Regarding the numbers of players, yes, we have a stronger team that could work on winning the League Cup, The FA, the Chumps and the Premiership.

If we are better? I don't know. We look shittier. City's last september would had destroyed us at the moment. However, let's wait a little before saying if Garcia is better than Nige or Sinclair is shittier than AJ.

PS:

There might be a thing in this. Bobby may had made his season plan with the team to have a performance boom from march, just for the end of the season to go all the way and now we are just holding back.
