he wouldn't sign a new contract and we'd get zilch for him if he left. Is the alleged 3.5M worth much compared to zero? Clearly our bean counters thought it was.

WRT the price, obv the market set the price, not us...that's how it works you know.

Regardless, he was one of my faves and i miss him and his attitude and his game. A classic fucler.

cheers

Because he got in bed with Kia then refused to sign a new contract.

His own fault.

By the way, he wasn't that good. Some City fans need waking up.

I miss him and also AJ. Their replacements are no improvement. I hope in time I will be proven wrong !

yep. Sure Milan have won 1 game so far this season, imagine there's a thread on the Milan boards 'what does de Jong actually do?'

De Jong refused to sign an extension, we had no choice, he wanted out, not a huge amount more we could do other than give in to his ridiculous wage demands.

De Jong wasn't some clean sheet machine. The one were missing is Barry in my opinion. Garcia offers a million times more in attack and looked better this game than last positionally. We'll be fine, just need that ruthlessness back.

As much as I liked him as a player and a character, I didn't think he was that instrumental in us winning the premier league. Didn't think he was that regular a starter?

he only started the pass that ended in the goal, and by keeping it on the floor when others might have hoofed it around like spasmoid freaks.

anyway, i miss him...

A thread about a player who got greedy & when he was here was derided for his 'limited' play - now in hindsight he was our Alonso?? As much as I loved his no nonsense approach the deal was right for the club and him so move on and deal with it - no point crying over spilt milk

6 games without a clean-sheet and 10 goals conceded since he left tells me that maybe he was better than some City fans think.

correct me if i'm wrong but didn't he miss the first half dozen (or so) games for us last season through injury?? did ok without him then... nige's departure and our sluggish start are a pure coincidence.

He played once in the first half dozen games, and we kept a clean-sheet. We conceded 6 goals in the other 5 games.

He played against Swansea - Clean sheet
Didn't play against Bolton - Conceded 2
Didn't play against Spurs - Conceded 1
Didn't play against Wigan - Clean sheet
Didn't play against Napoli - Conceded 1
Didn't play against Fulham - Conceded 2

NDJ definitely was a good player, saying anything else is ridiculous revisionism, but it doesn't get away from the fact that he effectively chose to move on by asking for a ludicrous sum of money to stay.

de jong was the best in the league at what he did should have give him the money. garcia as a lot of improving to do to emulate nigel imo, ok so garcia might score a few more but weve got strikers for that and yesterday looked too slow.

Good point. Garcia might be better going forward but who cares ! We have enough players that can do that and score goals. What we need now is someone who can break up play and protect our back line and the effect of Nigel's absence is quite clear now.
Have to also say that Barry's absence is also a factor. Hope that he is now fully fit and able to start every game.

Imo, we have never solved the central mid problem, just papered over it.

Nige was a great stopper, Barry is a great game reader, Yaya is a brilliant attacking footballer. Garcia is probably a bit better than Nige once he settles in but basically a stopper, but imo what we need for 2 central midfield spots isn't a defender or an attacker, it's Colin Bell & Brian Robson. We need two great allround players.

We need to find two fantastic central midfield players who do a bit of everything not just one or the other. Until we do, everything is a compromise & there will always be something slightly missing.

Yaya attempting to do the NDJ role without actually going forward OR defending doesn't seem to be working very well does it?
