The 3-5-2

The 3-5-2

Postby Moonchesteri » Wed Oct 24, 2012 8:23 pm

Or 5-3-2 or whatever it is - I NEVER AGAIN WANT TO SEE MCFC PLAY IN THAT FORMATION.
It's Fucking shite.
I haven't seen a single minute of decent football with that formation so far. It's not even the fact everyone seems clueless when we try it but the fact that we NEVER look like scoring when we try it. Nor can we control the possession. Nothing good has come out of it

I thought for all the world that Mario was going to have a go himself but he just moved it on one more and it fell at my feet and I just thought: 'Hit the target, hit it as hard as you can and hit the target.' And it went in."

have we ever not conceded in this formation?

Clichy was pretty solid at left back tonight but then as soon as he went into the middle he became shit.

this formation is garbage and Mancini is too stupid to realize it.

It worked against Chelsea in the Community Shield which unfortunately probably gave Mancini the justification he needed for it.

I first saw it on the Asian tour and it was a head scratcher. We've just won the league with a style of play and formation so instead of building on that he goes with something completely different.

It's just plain stupid, and it's been found out every single time post-Community Shield. Micah's comments tonight are telling - the players don't want it any more than the fans do, yet here we are with it as Plan B and sometimes even Plan A.

It doesn't work so just drop it and go back to basics before we lose anymore important games.

We were actually playing well before the formation. Mancini over reacted and changed too much.

Hopefully he learned from this. I think some of the criticism directed at Mancini is a bit excessive though.

We still managed to create 3 clear opportunities using this formation. It's just at the back we looked in shambles.

Like I said on another topic, I didn't get to see the game. But that system will be his downfall in long run if he doesn't accept that you will never win shit with it. I've said it billion times now but it has been tried by numerous managers in numerous teams since early 90's when it was introduced and it never works. Simple reason for 5-3-2 Wingback being such epic fail is that you can't find wingbacks who can efectively cover all that ground they are expected AND that proper defending fullback paired with proper attacking winger will always create more opportunities up front and more solid defence.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

We don't have the defenders to play this formation. What you need is defenders that are 100% comfortable on the ball. When Lescott gets the slightest pressure on him he looks like Dunne. Btw Vinnie has so far this season taken up Lescotts "skills".
Lescott is a defending defender ,at that he does well.

Then switching it again, taking a player off, switching it again, putting a left back in the middle, switching it again, putting the left back on the right side, then switching it again.

Not suprised the players are confused.

Eh? I don't think this topic is about last night but about the system. What do you think people should just week after week say "Yeah, the system can't be faulted for this loss and three goals we conceded"? It's about a trend that we are having with that system. And everyone else who has tried it for that matter.

You've a habit of doing that, trying to put words into other people's mouths.

The system is ultimately to provide us with better width. It doesn't work for us, or hasn't up to this point at least but it works for other teams eg Napoli, the Italian national side.

The point of my original post was I see a topic slagging off the system after an embarrassing defeat which leads me to assume the OP is blaming that defeat on this system, so I pointed out we conceded two before we introduced the system last night.

this system is gash, and whatever merits it might have ... the players look absolutely lost in it. And that's when we plan for it and prepare ahead of time, switching to it in the middle of a game leads to even worse results.

See that's the problem.... we shouldn't use any system him involved. Apart from some very special boot cleaning system maybe. He'd be good for that job I feel.
