had a discussion last night with friend of mine and ended up disagreeing completely about Dirk Kuyt for example. some said he's a top player but I've always felt the opposite. Very mediocre attacker imo. Never did anything special, missed shitloads of chances, didn't create much and he was one of those strikers who was given an easy ride just 'cause "he works hard". Absolutely waste of space and Liverpool could've done soooooo much better.

I'm hoping that the next one will come to bite me in the arse later but another one which I've been saying since I first saw him play in Prem is Gervinho. Just not good enough for top side imo and I don't rate him. What does Gervinho really do?

Salomon Kalou was one as well. What the hell did he do in the Chelsea squad for so long? Or was it just that he was 'decent' sub who didn't complain about being on the bench?

who are the players you think are simply shite but nonetheless enjoy a reputation of being "top" players? past or present

Dirk Kuyt was shite but he was liverpool's most consistent player and always scored against us.

Florent Malouda is shite but its whether you consider him a top player

Disagree on all except for Young, but then I don't think he's being touted as a top player per se.

Steven Gerrard has been THE best all round midfielder over the last 10+ years in my opinion. He could tackle, pass and score the spectacular.

No doubt in my mind if he wasn't carrying Liverpool all these years by himself and playing for someone like the rags he'd be considered one of the best in the world.

I always thought that Darren Anderton and Steve McManawoman were vastly overrated, even at their mid-late 90s peak. Oh and David Trezeguet. These three were all good players - I just thought they weren't as good as people made out.

Are we talking about the Trezeguet who has had over 0.5 goals per game his entire career for both club and country? That is pretty decent if you ask me, and only marginally worse than Ronaldo (fat one) who is touted as best striker ever.

Yes. The one I just referred to as 'a good player'. I just never enjoyed watching him play I suppose. Darren Bent and Andy Cole have similarly wonderful goals-to-games ratios.

Ashley Cole used to be the best fullback in the world but recently has been one of the worst, yet anything he does gets judged as if he's still one of the best. Bizarre.
