Manchester United are still selling season tickets – TEN games into the campaign. Reds officials have written to members revealing there are still season seats unsold, despite Sir Alex Ferguson’s men being top of the Premier League.

In previous years, the Reds have had long waiting lists of fans desperate to snap up a season ticket.

Attendances at Old Trafford this season have been close to the stadium’s 76,000 capacity.

Reds sources said they had exceeded the target of 52,000 season ticket holders – but were continuously looking to increase that number. The club also has to put 15 per cent of seats at the Theatre of Dreams to one side to allow for cup matches, when opponents are given bigger allocations than for league matches.

But the continuing availability of season tickets this term has been put down in some quarters to ongoing resentment at United’s American owners, the Glazer family, and the club’s relative lack of success last year.

Rivals City sold out of season tickets at the 47,800-seat Etihad Stadium before the big kick off. However, they only made about 36,000 available for similar reasons and hold some back for fans who cannot make every match.

One United fan slammed the club after he was told there were no tickets left for a match – but was then offered a season ticket the following day.

Reds’ member Jan Ibrahim entered a ballot for tickets for himself and his grandson Ethan for Saturday’s visit of Arsenal. Jan, 48, got an email telling him that he had been unsuccessful in the draw. But the next day he got a letter inviting him to apply for a season ticket – which would guarantee him a seat for the Gunners’ clash.

Jan, a security guard from Castleton, said: "That’s not on – if there are tickets available, which there clearly are, then sell me one."

A United spokesman said: "The Arsenal game was hugely over-subscribed and, while we did set aside some tickets for those who wanted to commit to buying a season ticket, the vast majority went into the ballot.

"We will continue to sell season tickets throughout the year – there are always repatriated cards due to cup game payment failures, banning orders.

"There’s always the odd seat available - normally single seats in East Tier 2 or Tier 3 of the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. It’s perfectly normal."

Expecting so many banning orders they've worked it into the system! Ruthless. Bastards.

I'm surprised they haven't been bought by travel companies. A Norwegian bloke I knew sometimes carried a huge holdall full of Utd season tickets, which were allocated to various Norwegians who came over on package trips.

Perhaps they have reached saturation point & now the travel companies have more tickets than they can sell ?

For me, if the biggest club in the world (c) TM.com is having trouble shifting season tickets then all other clubs should be worried ....

Considering they have over 650 million fans, they are a right bunch of fucking part timers. Their Stadium should be twice the size of Manchester, to accomodate all the people who want to see them. Instead, they can't even sell out OT.

Wait til we attract as many clueless plastic wankers as they do, our pr crew will sell more tickets to them. Just watch.
