Before we start pointing fingers I'd like to hear DH's take on this - seem to remember something about him not being new & having little involvement in training

here's the thread i started a while back with doug's responses...

viewtopic.php?f=119&t=44095&p=468096#p468096

despite doug saying that this fella doesn't take any sessions himself, his addition to the coaching set up seems to have coincided with us forgetting how to defend..... or am i being daft???

something has happened to turn vinny into a shitting dog. but the goals last night were surely down to zonal marking by certain players that simply can't do it.

as for clichy - there was a huge gap of no-one in front of him last night, not helped by being up against one of the few players who had him beat hands down in a foot race.

I was saying all game that Clichy needed help down his flank he was sometimes up against 3 Ajax players and no fucker helped him out.

What's Gregucci supposed to do about Clichy letting his man get a run on him for the first corner? Or what's he supposed to do about Nasti not attacking the ball? What's he supposed to do about Yaya going asleep on the second corner?

These are individual errors from players not fucking concentrating or taking responsibility to get the ball cleared.

We have the second best defence in the league, we have kept 3 clean sheets in our last 4 league games.

Blame the individuals for their lack of focus or pick on the easy target, the new defensive coach? I know who I'm blaming.

indeed. our actual formation at the start seemed to be something like this:

Hart
................ Kompany.......Nastasic.........Clichy

Zabaleta.....Garcia...........Barry

Nasri.....................Yaya

.............................Tevez ...................Aguero

So, the famous "unbalanced 3-3-2-2" formation that got me relegated in my first season on CM07 :)

What did Ajax create bar them corners in the first half? Did they get behind our defence once?

Dif sport, NZ play Aus Robbie Deans coach of OZ new certain plays NZ used from his Crusader days Dan Carter, changed tact and the result was 11 wins on the spin, sometimes you have to change is the point I am making, we are all over the shop and almost being read by Ajax over 2 games which may be the blue print for others, if we fail to accept it is BROKEN. Stubborness is not working our captain and keeper are the best in the world at the jobs, they look lost on set pieces.

mate - that's a bit similar to the old "what the fuck does andy cole do apart from score shitloads of goals" debate

and according to skysports - they had exactly the same number of shots as us - 11.

Nothing at all like that.

Individual errors cost us goals from corners. They were having pops from long range because they couldn't work openings, that's why your stats read like that.

and they got the corners by accident? totally accept the stats can lie. the point i would make is that for the majority of the game they looked more comfortable with the ball than us - and certainly didn't try and park the bus. they attacked us - because we let them. IMHO a team worth far less than ours gave us a football lesson over both games.

A football lesson? Give over. The first game maybe, they showed us how to pass a ball properly and how to work for each other but last night we were the better side that gave away a ridiculous first corner through an individual error and paid the price because we weren't focussed.

They had opportunities to attack us because we were leaving so much space at the back trying to force the issue.

We have had more than one kind of defensive problem.

The one which is bothering us in the Prem; the organisation has disappeared & we look vulnerable to any kind of attack at any time, (which is a new problem) & the one which we have in Europe, which has been there all along; every team we play is better drilled than us in every area & tactically superior.

The 2nd problem is Mancini's fault ( eg still Yaya Toure at near post for set pieces doing fuck all after being a proven failure time and again in that job), but with the first problem, it's hard not to put 2+2 together & come up with the answer that something the new defensive coach has added to the mix isn't working.

We were being bitched in Europe by average teams well before he arrived though.

The buck stops with Bob on that one.

The goals we are shipping is one thing, but the bigger issue is our team formation and how we press other teams. The entire shape and setup of our team defensively, is problematic. Its not a huge problem but it is nonetheless a problem. Unless its fixed it will continue to cause us problems and having to claw back games with last gasp goals.

If it is fixed, we will win the league.
